The rise of synths was heralded as the end of the requirement for musicians beyond keyboard players and drum programmers. Yet, here we still are. There will be a place for this new threat to our very existence, but I imagine folk will still be plucking, bowing, striking whatever instrument takes their fancy and railing against the electronic upstart de jour.

My oldest bass is my Rob Allen MB2, which I’ve had for coming up 10 years. My oldest instrument is my Simon & Patrick Rosewood Pro, acoustic guitar, which I’ve had for nearly 30 years.

Same for me and my EB Cobalt flats, you get some actual wrap around the capstan on the E & A strings but, because of the large diameter of the peg, doesn’t seem to matter.

This is the probably the hardest thing* about being in a band, organising mutually acceptable dates is like trying to nail a jelly to a wall/herding cats. *That and finding a name, actually playing your instrument is, by comparison, the easy bit.

It's certainly a genre I would be very much open to playing, not least because it would be in sharp contrast to the Mod band I'm in, but it would also give the opportunity to occasionally use my EUB in a band setting (right up until the point where the other band members say, "Don't use that again," ).

If Canada's only contribution to music was Rush, that's be OK with me. However, The Great White North's contribution to music is huge, thinking just of Americana, the aforementioned Robbie Robertson, springs to mind, as do Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and , so a certain degree, Bryan Adams and k d Lang.

Pretty much why I moved my ‘63 on. I was happily gigging it and, one day, I just started thinking about it being nicked or damaged (more than it was already, it really was a road warrior). It wasn’t until I bought my JMJ Mustang that I’ve had anything with that tone again.

The first Ric I tried was at a music show. The action/relief was so high, you could slide the palm of you hand under it, absolutely shocking. It wasn’t until years later, when GG started stocking them, that I thought I’d give them another go to see if they were still as dreadful, they were not and the tone was one of those, “I need this in life,” moments. Sadly, the improvements hadn’t worked down to the finer details, but I was too wrapped up in the sound to notice them at the time of purchase, which included a chunk out of the finish (I managed to get a discount for that though).

Elles Bailey is one that immediately springs to mind, as is, young, local band, Longstay.

The lowest of low bars. My 4003s had a high nut and a skew bridge pickup surround. It was really a case of don’t look too closely as it’ll end in disappointment. Shame for such an iconic instrument. Sounded great nonetheless and didn’t play badly but, for the money, they should be better.
