  1. Maruszczyk use 3 over 2 on their Elwood L range. Are they showing Big Poppa the middle finger?
  2. A rather measly 12 (plus one cancellation due to band member medical issue). However, if I think of that as one a month, that doesn’t seem too bad in terms of stress levels (although the continual discussion regarding getting more gigs pushes those levels up). I already have 8 for this year, 3 this month, so 2020 might be more active.
  3. Having a quiver of basses to choose from is certainly a nice thing and allows one to choose the ‘right’ bass for whatever situation you find yourself in. However, there is also something to be said for just having one that you know inside and out and are able to get what you need out of it, having ‘your sound’ there every time. I have 4 basses and often flit from one to another trying to find the one I’m most comfortable with, which I find irritating, that and continually looking at other basses, wondering if there is something I’m missing out on. Good luck with your quest, I hope you make a decision you feel comfortable with, whatever that decision is, don’t look back - there be dragons!
  4. My type is... continually changing between the 4 I own (a J, P and MM type, plus one other very different one). Of course I’m always looking outside those (damn you GAS), but I’m pretty sure I don’t ‘need’ anything else. Following on from a gig I did last Saturday and a couple of threads here on BC (I’m easily influenced) I’m currently thinking my MM style fretless is my type.
  5. I like it when I’m doing it, but the faff surrounding it takes a chunk of the shine off of it. Oh for road crew and drivers, etc.
  6. Agreed, I can’t stop looking at it, even though I know I don’t have the £s spare, even as a special birthday present to myself ☹️.
  7. You can roll a 💩 in glitter. But @Maude’s point still stands.
  8. I'd forgotten about them, they were very good and Jools couldn't play any boogie woogie as accompaniment. There we go, an oasis amongst the mire.
  9. Ooh, now that looks ace. No relicing for me, the juxtaposition of the shiny chrome against the distressed body works perfectly.
  10. Or used a pick like Carol Kaye, who played all those bass lines anyway. 😂
  11. I fitted a BT1 extender to my Jake which the spec says is 17.5mm, the same as the HB1, and it fitted fine. IIRC the screw holes lined up. Funnily enough, I was looking at the Ultralights myself today and I came to the conclusion that they wouldn’t fit without some fettling of some description.
  12. But criticising The Hootenanny is as traditional as, well NYE itself and frankly there’s normally bugger all else to watch, so perhaps it’s not as bad as we think (no, it is ).
  13. Inverted? Hmm, on second thoughts, maybe not. 🥴🤔
  14. Evening gigs are a pain for that, I seem to spend my day sitting around waiting to pack up and go. My main band is going to try and do more Sunday afternoon work this year, which will cure that; love an afternoon gig.
  15. Peter Gabriel - Us. An overlooked album in his canon IMO. If instrumental guitar music floats your boat, Lari Basilio - Far More (featuring Nathan East, Vinnie Collaiuta and Greg Phillanganes as the backing band). Steven Wilson - To The Bone from 2017.
  16. If only. Members of my bands are always off playing with function bands they’re also members of, which are booked months in advance (mostly repeat bookings), that leaves me at home moaning about the musical entertainment on TV. For light relief, I watch Hotel Mumbai last night 😱. Dev Patel is talented actor and no mistake. A well made film about something totally awful.
  17. And he can still sing too. There's an ageing portrait of him somewhere, no doubt.
  18. Nice thread cross-over there Silivia.
  19. My bingo card certainly had at least two ‘numbers’ unchecked.
  20. And what was up with that snare sound? Yep, another year, another moan about the mix on Later. When will they learn? It was the same awful mix on Graham Norton too, Mel C’s vocals were lower than the synth backing.
