  1. On the whole BC is a great bunch of folks with a common interest, which doesn't include denigrating that interest. Yes there is the odd spat in Off Topic, but this is normally settled down as it it is dealt with quickly and efficiently by the admins and mod (tugs forelock/doffs hat as sign of respect ). What never ceases to amaze me is not only the depth of knowledge of EVERYTHING (bass playing, plumbing, contract killing, you name it) but the empathy shown to others when things aren't going well (I refer you to the depression thread for a prime example). I visit here many times a day and BC has become an intrinsic part of my life, I'm so happy I found it. Now back to work you lot, or you'll get a lick of the cat I tell 'ee! * *Tiddles isn't keen on the experience either, but we need to have some form of incentive.
  2. You are not wrong, sir. When I stripped my black Gary Willis, I almost wished I’d left the clear layer on and tried to polish it up.
  3. Nice video, Greg. Good to hear a shout out for John Giblin, he enjoys a lot of love here on BC, but is pretty much unknown in the wider world, as you say (coincidentally, I was playing Babooshka with my band just last night). I will check out Grace & Danger.
  4. One from a charity gig I did with a one off band in the summer. And one with my Tom Petty tribute.
  5. IME parties are more of a faff. You arrive earlier, leave later and normally have to cater to some requests (not just musical) that you wouldn't do for a pub/club gig.
  6. I knew the guys here would sort you out. 👏👏👏 Basschat.
  7. The above post was made at my suggestion, so c’mon you Matsumoto buffs, spill the beans. That body construction puts me in mind of my old Aria ‘lawsuit’ Les Paul.
  8. Good to hear that Fender aren’t just putting a premium moniker on a standard type instrument and coining it in, but are actually turning out a proper, high level bass. Congrats on your purchase, enjoy.
  9. Winner, winner chicken, etc...
  10. As a PJB user I’d agree with this 100%. I have a Cub, Flightcase and PB300 and I use the Cub for home practice, the Flightcase for rehearsals/quiet gigs and the Flightcase or Cub + PB300 for full on gigs. As to the “PS” - 😂😂😂
  11. Look what has just appeared in the for sale section
  12. Excellent, where’s my popcorn and comfy chair? Always love an @Andyjr1515 build thread.
  13. Rather depends on what kind of gig it is: small, intimate acoustic type gig - possibly; anything bigger - probably not. I’ve found my 100w 2x5 Cub is ok for small rehearsals and personal monitoring, but it’s not up to gigging with a band.
  14. One of my favourite albums of all time. The sleeve notes list both Kyle Brock and Roscoe Beck as playing bass on Desert Rose. At the time, Roscoe would’ve been playing either his ‘60s Jazz Bass or his Stevens’ custom 6 string (this eventually morphed into his Fender signature). Kyle played a P bass with an added humbucker (a double J type affair) in the bridge. Amp wise Kyle used Hiwatt and Seymour Duncan rigs live and Roscoe was a Trace Elliot player at the time, IIRC.
  15. One of us, one of us. Mwah, ha, ha!
  16. Love the colour of that 5 string. Enjoy.
  17. Having basses delivered to work is both brilliant and frustrating at the same time; been there, done that. Cool bass, enjoy.
  18. I'm open anything except gold hardware and more knobs than a flight deck. Full disclosure, I've owned a bass with both of those, it was nice, it has gone. Oh, hang on, there's more, I don't like single cut, Tele bodies on a bass (G&L ASAT) at all.
  19. If by 'Showcase' you mean what I'll play in a soundcheck for the FOC engineer (was any bass player really ever hired by being able to play solo pieces?), it's normally a rip off of Tower of Power's Squib Cakes, or Robert Palmer's Sneaking Sally Through The Alley. If I'm feeling proggy, Spirit of Radio wins the day.
  20. If it wasn't for the J width neck, I might've gone for one of these over my last purchase (P type).
  21. I have a massive soft spot for New England. Unfortunately WA, in whatever guise, will always live in the shadow of Argus. The curse of the great 3rd album.
  22. I think that is a wise decision, especially given that Mike Pedulla is ceasing production. Stick with it and stop me looking at stuff of my own that I would need to sell (and then regret selling) in order to afford a Ped.
