  1. Oh that’s looking really good now. It’s amazing how much pickups complete a look. That headstock is a massive improvement IMO; top work, sir.
  2. I have a jazz dep coming up and it will be my first (I’m primarily a rock/pop/funk player). I’m enjoying the challenge of the set list and working through the charts (iReal is a big help; recommended), but the Latin numbers are just such a joy to play, so I understand where you’re coming from.
  3. I had my own trinity some years ago...
  4. The Darkglass was recently part of the ‘Heft Test’ at the SE bass bash. Here’s a video of all the amps (class 4 vs valve) in action.
  5. They’re very complementary about it on Planet Rock, saying that the performances are spot on. I’ve heard from a friend (who enjoyed it) that they sometimes play fast and loose with the timeline, but if you can overlook that, it’s rather good.
  6. 😱 Fingers crossed for a solid repair and a renewed love for this bass.
  7. Likewise. I completely forgot to try out the Roscoe Beck V, despite saying I would earlier in the day (possibly sensory overload, but more likely a senior moment). I had a watch of the videos and I think they convey a pretty accurate aural account of what we heard in the hall (don't you just hate it when you hear your own voice?). Top work Silvia (as always), thank you for making the effort to take the pics and record the videos.
  8. I watched one of the Queen programs on BBC last night and, as ever, JD is the only one who seemed/seems in anyway grounded and not a total posterior. He actions since leaving and up to now give me no reason to think otherwise. The Daily Mail can, again as ever, go and have coitus with itself. Roger Taylor seems confused as to what a sociopath is.
  9. This was brought home at the recent SE Bass Bash where a ‘blindfold’ tone test was done with umpteen basses. A room full of players failed to identify a goodly number of different basses when played behind a curtain, through the same rig (dual p/up instruments were played with both on). A cure for tonal GAS if ever there was one.
  10. Some folks listen with their eyes and prejudices. A shame, as they’re missing the point of what an instrument is for.

  12. A wonderful establishment, I remember going there on numerous occasions and chatting with Nick Owen and Jimmy Sims; top chaps. The shop in Houndsditch/Aldgate was good too.
  13. Captain America as host? Could be good. Oh, hang on...😉 I’ll get my coat.
  14. I once used a rubble waste sack covered in Gaffa tape as a head cover. It was perfect and super hard wearing.
  15. Very true. Listening to Joni Mitchell's, Wild Things Run Fast (a very bass prevalent album), the marvellous Larry Klein appears to be channeling Jaco. However, when he plays fretless with others (Peter Gabriel, Don Henley, for example) he seems to avoid this.
  16. Just did a Google search and it confirms that it is indeed only 4 ☹️. Now that they’ve done drums, I wonder if they’ll do other instruments 🤞.
  17. From what was, up to that point, a good series, I felt this was a lame episode, merely done as filler. However, there were some little nuggets of information that were interesting, but not nearly enough. I’m hoping for a return to form tonight (there is another one isn’t there?). For my own tastes, I would’ve liked to have seen Manu Katché, Vinnie Colaiuta, Stewart Copeland and Steve Jordan in the list, but that’s just me.
  18. Living the dream, how very cool. Enjoy.
  19. Peter Gabriel - So John Mayer - Continuum Any Tower of Power album Royal Scam - Steely Dan
  20. I’ve found Hipshot to be a very helpful company, email them and see if they can supply a spare screw.
  21. That doesn’t look like the original screw, it should be much longer and have a knurled head for adjustment.
