  1. A nice result all round. That’ll be a great looking bass for not a huge amount of money.
  2. Just listening to the radio and I was reminded of this one: Bad Company - Bad Company. Not an obvious ‘fretless’ album, but it is Boz playing sans speed bumps.
  3. How very true. Pre CBS baby = ££££££ Cracking bass BTW, enjoy.
  4. Go for 3, that’ll allow you to knock it back a little and get a nicer finish.
  5. It’s good stuff for sure. I used some water based artist’s paint as a stain on my Telecaster and then applied coats of Danish Oil over it. I let it dry and then lightly waxed - all good.
  6. No Parlez - Paul Young Oil on Canvas - Japan
  7. Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder, but in this case 🤮🤮🤮
  8. Andy Fraser’s solo on Mr Big from the Free Live album; not technically difficult, but superb build and note choice.
  9. This is what persuaded me to buy mine. Of course I had to learn it too. I'm kinda OK up to the solo (for a value of OK), but my harmonic knowledge isn't up to improving over it authentically. Fun to do though, a genuine solo piece. Good luck.
  10. I have both defretted a bass and had on3 done professionally. My attempt was actually quite fair, although there was a little bit of chipping here and there. The one I had done professionally was by The Gallery in Camden. Top quality job, absolutely no complaints, just praise. IIRC it cost £110 including a set LaBella flats (this was a while back though). If you like and get on with the bass you’re considering moving on, I’d definitely have that converted, rather than buy new.
  11. +1 for Dave Marks. His masterclass at one of the early LBGS with Darby Todd still remains one of the best things I’ve seen there. Add to to that, he’s a very nice chap into the bargain.
  12. Fast and nasty snap taken just before tonight’s gig
  13. @discreet on the money, as ever. But he is not wrong; time to buy some Tena for men at Ez Towers .
  14. Ooh, I like that, More understated than other Alembics I have encountered, which is good thing IMO. Enjoy your purchase and top work on those T shirts!
  15. A rather good version of my favourite Chick Corea composition.
  16. They did rather gloss over the solo stuff, especially after having laboured over everything that came before (461 is my favourite piece of EC output). I knew most of his story, especially the years up to and including his heroine addiction, but the loutish, drunken, on stage behaviour was an eye opener. As a lad I was a huge fan, nobody else came close for me. Then I got to see him live at the Crystal Palace Bowl and he was decidedly average (he was totally out played by just about everyone else that day, with Larry Coryell ruling the roost). I stuck by EC for quite a while after, but lost interest in listening to that style of playing. EC has certainly had tragedy in his life (the Conor incident I wouldn’t wish on anyone - just too horrible) but he does come off as a bit of a whinger, which is especially evident if you’ve read his autobiography. Maybe he just likes to use various mediums as his catharsis and has the position to be able do so and if it works for him, I guess that’s ultimately ok.
  17. I’ve had this. A band I was in used to do Rhythm Stick, the drummer would count it correctly but then speed up by 10-20 bpm. One night I just stopped and said, “No!” or words to that effect. My point was that I ran out of talent at that speed, but he still had the hump. You can only take this head on IMO, the rest of the band being united with you helps though. Good luck.
  18. I assume this is good for metal. I'll get my coat. 😄
  19. Good call, P90s for the win.
  20. That was my favourite T for a long time, but I wore it so much the holes that appeared in the armpits became irreparable. I still have the orange T and I wear my polo shirt quite a lot for golf. Funnily enough, I had the MM embroidery but it wasn’t until I bought my first Maruszczyk Elwood L that I noticed that the waist of the embroidered bass was offset like a Jazz. So I now have a shirt with the silhouette of my custom built basses; serendipity at work.
  21. Although not a P shaped body, a Fender Jaguar has the pickup config and nut width required https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/170606311171008--fender-standard-jaguar-bass-pf-olympic-white
  22. One of my favourite bass tones over the years has been John Entwistle’s tone on The Real Me and a great line to boot. It’s smooth, warm and just lovely all over. Imagine my horror when I heard that isolated 😱! Just recently, I’ve started using my VTDI pedal on all the time with a fair chunk of overdrive (for me at least, I used to have it as clean as a whistle) both my drummer and guitarist have commented on how good it sounds, not that it wasn’t good before apparently, according to them.
  23. Not as good as Beyond The Lighted Stage, but worth a view if not necessarily a purchase, unless you’re a full on a Rush fan of course, but you’d probably have it already in that case.
