  2. Yep, that Ric didn’t sound good there next to the others, perhaps a poor example, who knows? What surprised me was how well the Tbird did there, tone-wise, it was right up there for me. However, having recently played one, I know they’re not for me ergonomically, which is shame as I think they look incredibly sexy, the same for the Firebird, but I don’t find that nice to play either.
  3. I have similar findings. My first ‘Ray was a US SUB, I then bought a full fat, 3 band, US ‘ Ray and I much preferred the tone and playability of the SUB to the vastly more expensive instrument. It sounded more organic and less processed/clattery to the 3 band. I did have an issue with the paint finish on the SUB’s neck, where, after a time, it started to drag on my hand, but a quick strip and Danish oil sorted that out. The best VFM money bass out there (even new)? Yeah, quite possibly.
  4. As I have previously said in the Maruszczyk thread - want! A lovely thing: enjoy.
  5. Likewise. My main problem is that I don’t have traffic updates on my satnav and sometimes I forget to check on the phone before heading home, ergo - my fault
  6. I don't know if this has been posted before, but I found it interesting. Yes, I'm sure that there are other basses that could've (should've?) been included, but it does what it says on the tin. For my part, I thought the P was the best all rounder, YMMV.
  7. He only looks like he's in his 50s. I'd like to think I'd look that good in my 70s, but the flowing locks and model like bone structure are just not in my genes (that emoji is as bald as I am).
  8. Another cracking gig at one our regular haunts: a nice venue with a two level stage, decent backdrop, plenty of power and we always get a good sound here. For the second gig in a row, I left my Tech21 VTDI on pretty much all the time and played with a pick even more (I’ve been inspired by Bobby Vega recently); monster tone that had both the drummer and guitarist commenting on how good it was. Usual local audience apathy during the first set until the last two numbers and then up for it during second set (we swap the songs around from set to set, so it’s not the choice of music). We also had some photos and video shot by someone we know and we’re looking forward to seeing the results. Best of all, we packed up quickly and the M25 wasn’t closed for my journey (improvement works are the bane of my gigging life), so home pretty sharpish for a change.
  9. Absolutely love this episode (and the program in general). My band occasionally do this very arrangement, it’s so much fun to play.
  10. Without reading the entire thread, I can recommend the Phil Jones Cub.
  11. An update wouldn't seem too much to ask, especially given the circumstances. Hope this gets resolved soon.
  12. When playing guitar I always use a thickish pick, anywhere between 1.5 and 2mm and, as I had them, I always used these on bass. However, having seen Bobby Vega (pick-meister extraordinaire), I tried a .73mm: what a revelation. My pick playing (on bass) has become more fluid and I think I prefer the tone.
  13. Nice. There is something for me about those old B&W photos that is hard to recreate with modern, digital photography.
  14. I finally succumbed to buying a new acoustic guitar. Fortunately, I resisted the extremely expensive Gibson version of this (only 10 times more expensive!). However, I did try the Sigma version (twice the price) and it was easily the equivalent of the Gibson. If I'm ever in the market for a premium grade acoustic, then Sigmas are going to be my first port of call. Anyway , I give you Sally (a friend said the bridge reminded him of Dali's tash, so Sally it is)... Great pick up system on this, both piezo and magnetic. Sounds really good through an electric amp.
  15. Our singer uses in ears and gets her own personal mix from the desk. It’s does add some time, but is really just another monitor.
  16. Right you lot, just stop it with these Wals, OK; I'm running out of clean undies!
  17. I was playing mine yesterday, one forgets just how jaw-droppingly good that tone is. GLWTS.
  18. GAH! This is is almost the same as my recent configurator design, except mine had a P in the neck and block inlays.
  19. The Royal Scam is my favourite SD album.
  20. Just back from seeing Steven Wilson at the Royal Albert Hall. I was quite impressed, especially as I’m not totally familiar with his body of work, but I do like a bit of prog. The drum sound was brilliant, as was the playing by Craig Blundell. Nick Beggs’ playing was sadly poorly EQed (nothing new here for us bass players) but what I could hear was rather good, especially his fretless work. A good show visually too, with front and rear projections. Add to that that my chum has got us tickets in a box and it all added up to a good evening.
  21. Given the quality of some the Squier basses, this wouldn't be a problem, especially after a good set up. Would the audience notice? Not really. Would I notice? Oh yes, there are reasons for having a chambered body, 33" scale and premium pickups.
