  1. I've had been using a VT DI for the occasional song where I need a more scooped tone for slap work. However, last Friday (and with a slightly different EQ) I had it switched throughout the gig and it sounded monster. I even found myself using a pick a bit more often which really had it snarling (even the guitar player commented). Could be the way of the future. For the record my chain is: wireless; octaver; chorus; VT DI; tuner (with mute); straight into the front of my Phil Jones Flightcase.
  2. We’ve recently done this with our lead guitarist and as both are nice guys, very talented and with the same work ethic (learning songs thoroughly before a rehearsal, etc.) it works fine. Other members of the band have also been part of job shares in other bands and they’ve had no problems with it; it seems to be a good way of keeping everyone happy.
  3. This does happen occasionally, but I can never remember what it is I say that triggers the reaction.
  4. I remember being in school and my fellow pupils asking if you’d seen TOTP the previous night and then discussing it; good times.
  5. I didn’t realise that JB had changed bass players again, the last I knew it was Carmine Rojas. Good to hear that the bass was well mixed and audible, right down to the different tones. I would’ve like to have heard/seen that gig.
  6. I’d still have my 4 string if it wasn’t for the narrowness of the fretboard at the nut, just too narrow for my hands. Strangely, the fiver waswide compared to other fivers IIRC.
  7. And damn fine basses they were too. That and the Stu Hamm sig bass were probably the best non ‘standard’ basses (P or J that it is) Fender made IMO.
  8. Not a million miles from what I have in mind (not that I ‘need’ another one).
  9. Yep. I have 2 of them, fantastic basses that lose nothing except weight.
  10. I’m thinking toilet seat.
  11. I see that the Elwood Lis being added to the configurator in a few days. Dangerous times ahead
  12. Don't waste your time fighting the GAS and the inevitable outcome, push the button
  13. I missed his performances, do you care to share said settings at all?
  14. Not PRS’s first foray into Stratdom, but certainly the poorest example. The EG is a much more refined version of the big F’s best seller.
  15. Following my visit and being knocked out by Bobby Vega, I’ve been playing with a with pick on songs I’d never consider playing with one. It has been quite revealing on how much fun it can be. Not everything works, but I was surprised by the songs that it did work with, especially as it added an even more funky vibe (I Wish for example). Check out his album ‘Sketches of Bob’ on Spotify. Sad to hear that the Eich stand was still loud on Sunday, it really isn’t fair on the other exhibitors or any nearby clinics (SBL’s was in the room next door). When I was watching Guy Pratt on the main stage, there was someone from the exhibitors section plainly audible during his stand up; that’s gotta be too loud, surely. This seems to be a common complaint every year, but nothing is ever done about it beyond lip service.
  16. I saw TF at a guitar show in Birmingham years ago, on the Fender stand, I thought his bass was going to yelp, run away and hide in a corner he was beating it so much.
  17. When I first picked up the bass in the 80s I swapped my Yammy BB300 for a Thunder lll. I didn't have it long when I ripped out the frets. Shortly after that I one t back to guitar exclusively, but since returning to the bass at the turn of the century, I've pretty much always had a fretless (or 2) and wouldn't be without one now. If I was only allowed one bass, it would be a fretless. I blame Pino.
  18. Chris is a top bloke who I’ve followed for years, he really is a top player, but knows what to play when and how to play it. I had a play on his Sandberg sig bass, very, very nice. His masterclass should be very informative. Bobby V is a force of nature and very individual. I spoke to him afterwards and he’s very keen on players doing their own, natural thing and not being slaves to others’ styles. Another thoroughly nice bloke.
  19. I haven’t been for a few years but, for me, that was the best one so far. Chris Childs and Bobby Vega were brilliant, Guy Pratt as amusing as ever and obviously bumped into a few other BCers. A few more exhibitiors would’ve been nice, but what they’d be showing, I don’t know. If you’re going tomorrow, you’ll have a good time.
  20. It’s a Maruszczyk Elwood L custom build. The Elwood L is essentially a chambered J type body (L for lightweight) with 3 over 1 headstock, but then the world’s your oyster as to pickups and hardware. As you can see, I went for 1xMM type pickup (I like a single p/up on a fretless) which makes it very ‘Ray in appearance. I’ve since added a Sterling shaped pickguard, so now it is even more MM in appearance.
  21. C’mon, you’re not a BC newbie, you know that this is our modus operandi
