  1. I got a comment last night, the sound of the fretless was recognised, that fact that my Elwood L has lines wasn’t mentioned.

    Maruszczyk's

My 2 Elwood Ls. Both 33" scale.
  3. Cracking new additions to the thread, many congrats folks; enjoy.
  4. I’m a huge Tele fan (I’ve owned a goodly number of other guitars too) as they're so adaptable. My current Squier has been so modded it’s only really the neck and associated hardware that’s original now. Hard to go wrong with a Tele.
  5. I have these in my custom Maruszczyk Elwood L, really articulate, with a nice subtle growl when you dig in. Great pickups.
  6. A New Bass Day thread with an uplifting back story and result? My day is better because of this. Huge congrats on the all clear and the stunning ‘Ray. Now you have to play Tear Your Playhouse Down and Call Me because it’s rude not to.
  7. The updating of the website has been absolutely awful, it resulted in me ordering a ticket for the wrong day (although I’ve been told by the organisers that I can use it on either day, let’s hope that turns out o be true). Bobby Vega is someone who could sway me one way or the other, but still no confirmation of which day, which is weird as they sent me an email informing me of BV’s addition, you’d think they’d know in advance of communications being sent out.
  8. And satin shirts, perhaps some face glitter.
  9. Felix Pappalardi, Geddy Lee, Burke Shelley, Martin Turner,.
  10. Both of my custom Maruszczyks are 41mm, very close to my Ric 4003s. Any narrower than this and necks start to feel like broomsticks to me.
  11. Put a small cable tie around the barrel and use the 'tail' to pull it out perhaps.
  12. I used to rehearse with mine where there was an electronic drum kit and it was just about OK. However, with an acoustic kit it would've been lost completely. At a gig, it'd be fine as a monitor if you use the DI out into the PA. Great sounding practice amp, it really retains the nuances of the instrument's tone, especially piezo equipped basses.
  13. Well, I've sent them an email, marked high priority and we'll see what we see. I'm not holding my breath though.
  14. No, I haven't. I may do that, but I'm just too cross about the whole thing at the moment, plus it would require them to actually answer an enquiry.
  15. I'm quite cross that the organisers never responded to my email enquiry about the schedule and have only just updated the main stage and masterclass pages which means I'm going on the wrong day!
  16. I have no issue with the ad, it's very precise and upfront about the band's expectations for the new member and what that person can expect in return. It'll appeal to someone and will be just the right fit for them. If I saw something like this local to me I'd probably give it a go if it fit in with my other commitments (both home and musically). It takes all sorts.
  17. A 75 J bass is the sound of a bass (that and a vintage P) heard on many, many recordings, just doing its job, supporting and not being obtrusive. Of course there were and are those who made their J and P basses stand out, but this was achieved by pushing various 'non-standard' sonic attributes to make it stand out. The 'Ray and ESP, by comparison, are 'modern' takes on the classic Leo designs (yes I know the 'Ray has been around for ages, but it still a more modern take on the P). The LM heads and cabs doing a fine job of reproducing what is put into them (I had an LMll through a Schroder 2x12 and a fine rig it was, more mid focussed because of the cab) so you may be correct in assuming that some more modern pickups in your J will give your sound that X factor that you're looking for. Trying on of the Tech21 pedals might also get you where you want to go. Either way, it'll be a fun journey .
  18. I know what you mean, this is the only shape I play with on the configurator theses days. Having said that, if they add the Joker to the app, I can see me worrying the bank balance quite seriously. That is spectacular! Congrats.
  19. He does come over as a top chap and he's always been a dedicated family man it seems. For a couple to have weathered hard times in their marriage, get it back on track and then for this to happen seems harsh, especially at only 52. Sad for PY and his 4 children.
