SE Bass Bash 2017 - with Steve Lawson and Davey Rimmer
ezbass replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in Events
My wedding anniversary is on the 24th which scuppered this year as we went away overnight and next year is a big one so I'll probably be away even longer to take in the weekend and the Monday (don't get me wrong I love going away to celebrate my nuptials, but I really want to get to a bash). -
You are a bad, bad man, Happy Jack Lovely things; fortunately the gold hardware has me running away quickly. Phew, another GAS bullet dodged!
Oh that is very me. If I were still playing SR fivers, I don't think I'd be able to resist that. Phew, close shave!

A left handed Warwick? I'm thinking someone was in hog heaven Double P pickup for the win. -
My 2 custom Elwood Ls are stunning. They're light as a feather, play really easily (I ordered 33" scale, 41mm nut width) and sound great. Construction is super quality, as is the finish. The real beauty of them is, not only what I've already stated, but the options not usually available on popular US brands at a very reasonable price. Check out the dedicated thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254344-the-official-maruszczyk-club/page__fromsearch__1 You can buy direct if you want a custom build or off the peg. However, Bass Direct now have a very good stock of the various designs too http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MARUSZCZYK_INSTRUMENTS.html

Some stunning basses featured in the last 3 posts, congrats to the new owners and maybe a BCer will purchase the 'Bird in adamg67's post.

If it's the one I've seen, it is indeed a really documentary. Did it have them in a restaurant having a meal at the end? They do seem very genuine, normal guys (for rock stars at least).

The ramp that came with Roscoe Beck signature used the pickup height screws for attachment, certainly a non invasive means if you can get that worked into the design. However, if one goes the sticky tape avenue, I've read that smooth peanut butter removes any residue and I've had similar good results with sunflower oil.
I wouldn't class Hue & Cry as a 1 hit wonder.Remember 'Ordinary Angel','Looking for Linda','Violently' etc?
No, I'm afraid I don't; my loss I'm guessing. I thought of another one hit wonder yesterday, The Lone Ranger by Quantum Jump.
Nice! Now, if you're bored one day... post that picture on the EBMM forum, and retire to a safe distance to watch the fireworks
Sterling Ball would have a stroke, he'd be apoplectic. -
Two offers to try one out? You've got to love BC. I haven't tried the five string versions, but I own 2 4 string Maruszczyk Elwoods and have previously owned a 4 stringed 'Berg, along with numerous Fenders (USA and MIM). The level of craftsmanship on the two European manufacturers' instruments is superb, outstripping the big F easily, the only Fender that I have played that I say can say comes close was a Reggie Hamilton Custom Shop creation, which came with a huge price tag. With regard to neck dimensions, you can specify the size with Adrian at Maruszczyk if you decide to go down the custom build route.

Bands you don't like with members you do like
ezbass replied to ZilchWoolham's topic in General Discussion
I like any one of Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted or Robert Trujillo individually far more than I like Metallica as a whole. On the other hand I massively prefer Metallica as a whole to Lars Ulrich as an individual.
Preach! -
I enjoyed that.

The mashing together of part of my surname and instrument of choice (nothing to do with it being easy).
That's easy as I can't deny I enjoyed a Gilter band live show in the late 80s , how was I to know
My girl friend at the time was a Glitter Band fan and I thought they were quite good. I also had the first GG album which was really good; this messes with my head. -
The smiths - take away Morissey and they are great, with him they range from passable to terrible.
I can take Mozza for one song, maybe two, but after that I'm done, which is a shame because the rest of them make a very passable noise indeed.
Lifeson makes my teeth itch when he solos. In fact I'm not sure he does solo. I think he throws the guitar down the stairs and just records that.
I only ever liked Spirit of Radio, but then after a period of extended exposure on Planet Rock I've become a real fan of Rush's 80s and early 90s work and I think Alex does an amazing job, especially his rhythm playing. However, this made me laugh out loud. They are very much a marmite band IMO.
Beatles - but can't stand either singer. I love the songs. They are well crafted and well performed but I've never liked L&M's voices. I've got tons of cover versions of their songs in various styles. They could have been massive with a better singer...
The only one of that band I have any time for is George. -
It's easy to make a list of bands that one doesn't like and call them overrated. One needs to look at bands that you do like and then judge whether they deserve all the plaudits that they receive. I'm not a fan of the bands that came out of the '60s, despite growing up with them. However, these same bands did alter the course of music at the time, so perhaps they do deserve more recognition than they're actual talent suggests.

YouTube sound compression has a lot to answer for I reckon.

The problem is that in the gap between the lines lie many micro tones that just don't sound right, which is why the line is a useful guide as to where the required tone will be. As has been said, on fretless your ears are very important as the thickness of one's fingers can alter the pitch considerably, especially up at the dusty end. I like fret lines as a guide (although the aesthetics of unlined is undeniable) especially when jumping to the higher register from lower notes. I have no issues changing from fretted to fretless as I tend to play fretted right behind the fret.
Someone asked for a closer look at the quilting on the fretboard. I've certainly never seen it before and a very welcome bonus on a board I bought as standard ebony
Ooh, that's lovely. I wasn't even aware that there was such a thing as quilted ebony; every day's a school day. -
Like all Yamahas, the Pacificas are well built and now you've managed to shift the truss rod it should prove a good instrument; for just £50! Upgrade the pickups, as suggested above, and you'll have a cracking guitar.
