2.
I will buy that album now. Thank you
You won't be disappointed, but you could any of them and be happy. Aja is another 'must have' of course: Peg, Josie, Black Cow...
 3. The Roland Blues Cube is worth looking at. https://www.roland.com/uk/products/blues_cube_artist/
 4.
Recently discovered Steely Dan - wow. "Black Cow", "Babylon Sisters", "Peg" - what an amazing band.
Welcome to the party. Although they're all amazing in their own ways, The Royal Scam is my favourite album. Enjoy your journey of SD discovery.
 5. I'm pulling up my chair and getting my snacks ready for another riveting build thread
 6.
Out of interest, for those suggesting octavers on fretless, do you mean specifically octave down or octave up?
Down for me as that allows me play higher up and overcome any tracking issues on the lower notes with my EBS Octabass.
 7.
This is a bit old, but doing the rounds again. He's rambling on about Roger Glover, but RG still has a Ric. He also mentions Geddy Lee; Geddy still has his. He bought one in '75 for $700; I bought one in '77 for £220 (it wasn't new, though). I used Rotosound Swing Bass strings on mine. It kindof pleases me that the RIc bridge upsets him. The bridge is just a variation on the tune-o-matic and people don't complain about Gibson height adjustment. Once it's done it's done; it's not like you're twiddling with the intonation every day, is it? He doesn't like the machines - ho-hum. "Rickenbacker do not publish any setup specs" - I thought they said the neck straight? He can't find the right wrench for the truss rods - heck, maybe he needs to check his tools... But when he gets his act together, he does acknowledge the two truss rod adjustment. He seems to like the Ric sound and can handle "Anthem". He makes a comment about the difference in volume between the two pickups, but that's a characteristic; if you use stereo/Ric-o-Sound it doesn't matter. Of course, the more recent ones have the vintage/modern switch to give you the choice. For me, the Ric is the best looking, best made, best finished, best sounding bass there is. Blaming it for being different is kindof missing the point.
You're right about the bridge, once set, it's fine; at least for me. Rics are quirky and some of the finishing is plain lazy (my bridge pickup and surround were not fitted on straight). However, it is these quirks that make it iconic and different. My 4003s is a beast to play compared to my Maruszczyks (which are a lesson in build perfection), but it is fun to play.
 8. I have a basic flat sound at the amp, then vary the pickup positions, use fingerstyle, slap or a pick as required. For those songs that need it, I'll add chorus, octave or pre amp set to a big smiley face eq (slap).
 9.
Well - the first job is to finish off a Wal neck replacement for one of our basschat colleagues (a new 5-string fretted neck as a fully reversible mod to a wonderful fretless 80's instrument). Shouldn't take long. Then...and here I have to whisper it very quietly so no one hears....a couple of six string electrics. One commissioned and one for me. But ezbass...don't you go telling any of the others!
I think we'd still like to see build diaries for these, we'll just try and ignore the thickness of the strings.
 10. Right then, now that's done and dusted, what's next?
 11.
Sort of reminds me of those melting clocks in some surrealist paintings... so how about "Dali's Daydream" ?
You could use part of the title of that Dali piece - The Persistence Bass.
 12. Without the neck, it looks a bit like an eagle or vulture's head. Add to that the swift inlays on the head, I'm going to offer 'The Squawk' as my suggestion.
 13.

That, my friend, is pure filth! Many congrats on an awesome pairing.
 14. I use the strap that came with my Maruszczyk Elwood L with my 4003s (it's pointless with the Elwood as is seems to be full of helium) and I find it more comfortable than my Mono.
 15. White is very classic. How about that with block inlays?
 16. The bassline to this is pretty marvellous. http://youtu.be/uMyCa35_mOg
 17. For hit records, EVH's solo on Beat It is hard to top.
 18.
Depends how good they are at singing. There are singers, and they are people who sing, the two aren't the same.
Very true. I can sing and hold a tune pretty well, but I have my limits (I'm another baritone and can manage a bit of low tenor). Our singer, on the other hand, is amazing and can go from tenor to mezzo soprano (Debbie Harry/Chrissie Hynde to Kate Bush) which is why she's the singer. However, she has her favourite keys where she can relax but, despite that, she's never asked to transpose a single thing.
 19. Pretty much anything Steve Morse solos on does it for me, his use of a repeated refrain is just lovely. http://youtu.be/4fsbIbAt_mo http://youtu.be/X0wZ1jLi6PU
 20.
middle, left... classy. Yum.
+1
 21.
Bass has literally turned up and it's been named Bass Of The Month on the Public Peace website, so I'm chuffed. https://www.public-peace.de/bass-of-the-month/2230-public-peace-proudly-presents-the-bass-of-the-month-july-2017 Didn't think Fed Ex delivered on a Saturday with International Economy, however!
Happy, happy new bass day!
 22.
So, I'm waiting on this with baited breath. Delivery before 6pm today. Allegedly.
Those pickups are awesome, you won't be disappointed.
 23. Excellent stuff. Congrats to you both.
