1. As has been said, dead spots are not manufacturer specific and there are also basses with 'hot spots' where one or two notes jump out. I've had a couple of these and neither, IIRC, were Fenders. P basses are all about 'that' sound, a wide-ish neck and the waisted body shape. I used find that I sometimes wanted a little bridge type tone to add to signature sound, so I added another P pickup; marvellous! I do regret selling that bass, but ''twas ever thus. Go and try a few, Fenders (both MIM and US), Lakland Skylines and definitely Squier CVs (awesome basses for the money, often superior to some Fenders, IMO).
2.
Here are my White Tbirds
Excuse me whilst I wipe the drool off of my tablet. White T'birds are just so right.
3.
Surf green [Img]http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/PisAAOSws65ToIpK/s-l400.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
For the win!
4. Well, other than The XX who I found rather 'meh', that was all rather pleasant.
5. It appears that the queen of bass face is appearing with her sisters tonight. Yep, Haim are amongst the guests; goodo!
6. If I didn't already have a Rob Allen, I'd be very interested in one of those. Ibanez have come out with another desirable design.
7. First gig since January, Friday night and the first gig outing for my new Maruszczyk Elwood L. Great to be back in the saddle and the new beast was a joy to play (certainly a lot easier on my shoulder than my Ric). A few 'moments' were had by all, there's nothing that replace actually playing live for knocking the rust off, but all in all a great gig to a packed house. I think the landlord was well pleased.
8.
When and why did Mustang Sally become so derided? After the Commitments?
Yep, after the film it became ubiquitous. It's the same with any song that has been included in a film years after the original recording and the general public suddenly become aware of it. Let's be honest, how many folk, especially women, were or are into Lynyrd Skynyrd? Not many, compared to other bands, but watch the punters scream and go, "Woo, hoo," the moment the opening notes of Sweet Home Alabama are played. Unfortunately, hearing these tunes absolutely everywhere, often played badly, has ruined the originals for me.
9. Rainey's playing with SD is what makes him one of my favourite bass players and influences. Just listen to that P bass; lurvley.
10. RIP the midnight rider. He had been very unwell for some time.
11.
you'd be better off setting your relief where it feels right to you, not some bit of metal / plastic.
This what I do. Holding the E string down at the first and last fret, I check it by eye to see if there is a visible gap, then I tap the string with my little finger to hear a definite 'tap' and then play all the strings on the first five frets checking for buzz. Hardly scientific, but it works for me. However, I do measure with a steel rule for string height.
12. Trigger's broom - that made me smile. Well played, sir.
13. This just in, pop stars wear weird clothes and fans follow suit (no pun intended). Nothing to see here, move along.

Sweet; congrats!
15. John East's P Retro gets a lot of love on BC (currently out of stock it appears). http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/all-products/p-retro.html
16. A chorus or octave box, if it must be only one.
17.
Afaik from news reports last night he was found hanging in his hotel room by a friend that went to check on him.
Yikes! That's going to stay with that person a while. What a horrible thing to find, worse still when it's your friend. For those who have been moved by Chris's demise and are not aware of the many symptoms, causes, etc that mental illness brings, there is a whole BC thread devoted to it and is worth reading http://basschat.co.uk/topic/101624-depression/page__st__1020__p__3294490__hl__depression__fromsearch__1#entry3294490
18. It appears that the hidden disease of mental illness took the great man https://consequenceofsound.net/2017/05/chris-cornells-death-ruled-suicide-by-hanging/
19. Just heard this on the radio, he was just 52 http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/chris-cornell-dead-soundgarden-audioslave-aged-52-a7742046.html
20. Happy birthday, etc; where's my cake?
21.
That would be ideal, but I don't know how well it would go down with the Mrs.
Have identical builds, but one will be a lined fretless. Then only have one out of its case at a time, whilst the other lurks in the shadows. Worth a try
22.
Question is... Fretless or fretted?
One of each, it's what I did.
23. I think I'll be going Smooth Hound.
