  1. A wonderful establishment, I remember going there on numerous occasions and chatting with Nick Owen and Jimmy Sims; top chaps. The shop in Houndsditch/Aldgate was good too.
  2. Captain America as host? Could be good. Oh, hang on...😉 I’ll get my coat.
  3. I once used a rubble waste sack covered in Gaffa tape as a head cover. It was perfect and super hard wearing.
  4. Very true. Listening to Joni Mitchell's, Wild Things Run Fast (a very bass prevalent album), the marvellous Larry Klein appears to be channeling Jaco. However, when he plays fretless with others (Peter Gabriel, Don Henley, for example) he seems to avoid this.
  5. Just did a Google search and it confirms that it is indeed only 4 ☹️. Now that they’ve done drums, I wonder if they’ll do other instruments 🤞.
  6. From what was, up to that point, a good series, I felt this was a lame episode, merely done as filler. However, there were some little nuggets of information that were interesting, but not nearly enough. I’m hoping for a return to form tonight (there is another one isn’t there?). For my own tastes, I would’ve liked to have seen Manu Katché, Vinnie Colaiuta, Stewart Copeland and Steve Jordan in the list, but that’s just me.
  7. Living the dream, how very cool. Enjoy.
  8. Peter Gabriel - So John Mayer - Continuum Any Tower of Power album Royal Scam - Steely Dan
  9. I’ve found Hipshot to be a very helpful company, email them and see if they can supply a spare screw.
  10. That doesn’t look like the original screw, it should be much longer and have a knurled head for adjustment.
  11. I've recently been toying with downsizing and getting a Tech21 Bass Fly Rig. However, I did read somewhere that Tech21 say that the Fly Rig isn't there to replace your normal pedalboard; this gave me pause. However, my old Diago board (see earlier in this thread) is heavy and takes up a fair bit of floorspace and once the GAS bug bites, it has to be sated. So I bought a Pedal Train Nano+ which comes in a natty little gigbag. I also bought the Pedal Train Volto power supply (all my pedals are analogue) so now I can also do away with running a power cable to the board too, happy days. During today's rain I got out the soldering iron and made a 9 volt supply lead to go to the battery connector in my old Airline (the normal wall wart is a 12 volt supply, go figure) and wired it all up. A happy bunny resides at Ez Towers. Even with all the pedals attached it still weighs less than the now empty Diago board.
  12. Saw a couple of the new ‘Rays in GG. I didn’t play them, but I was impressed by how much lighter they were to those I’ve owned in the past.
  13. I missed the Ronson one; shame, as I reckon that’d be really interesting.
  14. EB cobalt flatwounds. I originally fitted them on my Maruszczyk fretless and was taken with them that I put them on my Maruszczyk fretted too. Great tone, nice feel.
  15. Another cracking build and a very nice finish.
  16. I use a Phil Jones rig which is also very clear and unvoiced, which I liked (and still do) when I bought it. However, recently I've wanted some 'character' and so now have my Tech21 VTDI voiced a bit growly, in front of the the rig and on all the time. So, in agreement with the above comments, try sticking a tube emulation pedal of some sort in the signal path.
  17. Wow! That really is pis... er, wonky.
  18. Here's the thing, none of those amps sounded bad. Some of the 'baked-in' tones might not be as preferable as others, but nothing sounded bad, due in no small part to a classy cabinet. Likewise with the blind bass test, nothing was bad, just small variations on a theme. A real eye opener on both fronts.
  19. The whole bridge pickup assembly on mine is off centre and the pickup is squint inside that. I’m afraid the Ric QC isn’t so much poor as non existent. I hope you get a better one next time.
  20. I think his, “I want the big one,” comment is key here. Perhaps a Squier Bronco is the answer. Still a ‘big one’, but a more manageable short scale and smaller body.
  21. Played the version of this bass available at the SE Bash today, an absolutely stunning instrument that if I didn’t already own a Rob Allen, would’ve had my wallet screaming. Stunning work.
  22. My first bash, really enjoyed it, top organisation by those involved - kudos. ’Spot the bass’ blindfold test was an eye opener, or should I say ear opener. Fortunately, I recognised my own basses (sort of, I confused a vintage 4001s with my 4003s, but I nailed my Maruszczyk Elwood) but was at sea with the others. The ‘heft’ test was another interesting demo too. I took away the personal conclusion that one should play what you like the look, feel and up close sound of, because from a FOH perspective, there’s not much in it. A cure for GAS? Unlikely Played some really nice owned basses, with some absolute stunners, everyone was so generous with their often very expensive instruments. A big shout out for our own @Jabba_the_gut‘s semi acoustic build, easily at home with the Alembics, Wals, Rob Allens and other exotica; top work, sir. I’d definitely come to another bash if possible, preferably without the tiredness and banging headache I brought with me this time.
  23. I got mine from this site http://www.rickysounds.co.uk/Bezels.html
  24. There's no such thing as metal, it's merely a name and there's no real reason to think it's an thing on its own that requires specific tool. Metalheads are just fooling themselves.
