Anybody play a Jazzus? If so, how does it compare to a US Fender Jazz?
I haven't played one, but from the specs it does seem to be quite a different beast. I think there are a couple being sold in the for sale section, I imagine the current owner could offer some insight.

John Entwistle was the first player I was truly aware of, especially on Live At Leeds and Quadrophenia. Then there was Andy Fraser on Free Live. However, many years passed when all I cared about was the guitar players (I know, I know), until I heard Pino on Paul Young's, No Parlez, then everything changed.
It looks like Bass Direct are taking a few to the Bass Show, which might be useful for the curious.
Now that's a top tip!

Very tidy; congrats.

My first set up was a Yamaha BB300 and an H&H Bass Baby, however, I never gigged with them as I was then asked to play guitar in a band which saw me selling my bass gear to concentrate on guitar. Fast forward nearly 15 years or so and my return to bass playing (best musical decision ever), my initial rig was a Yamaha RBX of some sort and a Hartke Kickback, again I didn't gig with it. My first bass gig rig was a Fender Jazz through an Ashdown ABM300 2x10 combo, which I later added another 2x10 cab to. In fairness I haven't had a lot of rigs (basses are another question), the Ashdown morphed piecemeal into a Markbass head through a Schroeder cab and then onto my current Phil Jones set up.

In answer to your original post which contained the line
I'm fairly interested in ordering one, but I'd like to try one first
This
Once you start looking, you start thinking about your specs and... it's just a matter of (not much) time after that
And this
All this time you're procrastinating, Adrian could already be instructing his Maruzczelves to make your dream a reality...
I've just pushed the start button on a custom Omega 4A Headless Frog. Walnut Burl Top, Laminated Neck Thru Body, Delano Extenders, 3 band Delano Active EQ. Just have to wait now!!
Nice, you bad man. You need to post a pic of the red Elwood L that recently landed at chez vous. My build is maple on alder.
I quite like the idea of getting something that has been well used and that I don't mind fiddling with (I like fiddling).
The beauty of mainstream Fenders is their ability to be upgraded and messed around with. It's part of the fun for me.
I've been playing a bit more guitar lately, so treated myself to this all original '78.
Yum, yum!
I don't really have a #1, but always enjoyed hearing Steve Stills bass playing. Noone ever mentions him, but his bass playing was great on early CSN.
You are not wrong, sir. I remember checking the album sleeve to see who played bass on the first album and Mr Stills went even further up in my estimation.

Pino. If it were a top 3, he'd be joined by Tony Levin and Roscoe Beck, but PP gets the nod due to not only his ability to play with so many different and diverse artists, but his little fills that are just - him.

Satin, the normal Elwood L finish, feels lovely.
What are you going for?
Elwood L, 33" scale, 41mm nut width, rosewood 'board, drop D tuner, Delano JSBC 4 HE pickups, passive. Mrs Ez is on board so I'll be ordering the new build today and transferring the money; exciting times are here again.

I play in an 80s cover band and use a Ric 4003s and a Maruszczyk Elwood fretless through a Phil Jones rig and that works fine for me and have received compliments on the tone. I also add a bit of chorus and/or octave where required. I think you just have to avoid too much grit. YMMV.

We appear to have gone somewhat off topic, we'll be arguing the 'correct' pronunciation of scone next, which won't help the OP. In an effort to get us back on track, I revise my previous statement to, 'You want thump?
I've got a Maruszczyk helium balloon on order
I hope to be joining you in the anticipation stakes.
-
Well, the quote is in and with a slightly more expensive build and the current value of the British Peso, I have some work to do with Mrs Ez. I could go off the peg and make a couple of compromises, but I really want another bass that feels like it's full of helium, just like my Elwood L fretless.
La Bellas "F**k the World" ?? Great strings but bit extreme don't you think.
First time I've heard that as the long form of FTW. -
I put a stitch around the buckle on my Mono to stop it slipping, that sorted it out. I also found the Comfort strap too bouncy, but I know this eventually disappears over time if one can put up with it initially.
