  3. I’ve had tight rhomboids for ages, it’s a chronic condition. Don’t know what started it. I maintain mobility and comfort by rolling on a foam yoga roller and visits to an osteopath. Go see a physio or osteopath.
  4. From what I’ve read, the NS Trad strings are better for arco. In terms of pizz tone, there is a YT video of a comparison and I couldn’t hear any real difference between the 2 (it’s YT and possibly not the best reproduction) and the reviewer echoed that sentiment, although he did say there was some difference. The biggest difference between the 2 seems to be tension. Beyond that, you’re into proper doghouse strings and here I have no experience of different strings, only having played one. The only thing I am aware of is that if you want to use Spirocores on a WAV, you have to have 4/4 size, as they come up short if 3/4 are used (I think I got this snippet from Golihur).
  5. The Ibanez EHB1000S is a headless shorty with 19mm spacing, if you can source one and the body shape is OK for you.

  7. Why not indeed?
  8. Cor, that looks flash, not to mention super spendy.

  11. I complained about the bass sound on a band’s interactive webpage, following a gig and they merely leapt to the sound man’s defence; I was standing right next to the desk at the gig.
  12. Ooh, nice! I have 3 basses this weight (and less) and they are a delight to play compared to my not significantly heavier basses. Weirdly enough, my JMJ shorty is the heaviest of all my basses and my Rob Allen 35” the lightest - go figure. Great to hear of the physical improvement, long may it continue.
  13. Absolutely. Also, I find that either monochrome or a limited colour pallet helps immeasurably. The other secret .
  14. Loving that bass tone at the start, @Stub Mandrel, it even manages to hold its own when the guitar gets a bit more lairy.
  15. It is an attractive piece of kit.* *If you like carbuncles.

  20. I've yet to have a bass that I don't have to adjust a bit/lot. I've had actions that are too high, and too low for me, they might suit someone, but we're all individuals and have our own foibles. That's not to say that were unplayable, far from it, in fact I've only ever handled one almost unplayable bass ever, a Rickenbacker, at a show, where there was so much neck relief, you could slide your fingers underneath. I think reviewers should use the phrase, playable out of the box, which is a fair assessment.
