  1. Given the suggestion for second hand and short scale, I just noticed this in the FS threads
  2. You’ve got to want to pick it up. Solid logic in my book.
  3. Vote for your favourite 3* *shameless plug for the photographic competition.
  4. Check out the short scale thread, IIRC, there is one of our number demoing one.
  5. Short scale, fan fret, five string, unusual shape - https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/201102363661025--ibanez-ehb1005sms-emerald-green-metallic-matte-short-scale-bass
  6. And… how did it go? Don’t leave us hanging.
  7. Courtesy of the skip function on the Planet Rock app, Status Quo is no longer played at chez Ez. Iron Maiden have also joined the ‘skip squad’ recently and I feel Queen will join them.
  8. Ooh, that’s nice 😍. My first good guitar (sorry about the G word) was an Aria Les Paul. I wish I still had it now, it was awesome, especially with the 2 DiMarzio SDHBs I fitted.
  9. Me too. I have 7, inc an EUB. I’m fairly sure I only need* 2. * I must apologise for using that offensive term.
  10. If the pickups stay in their original position, that would affect the tone. If this is the case then it won’t sound like a Thumb.
  11. Looks like a nice installation and it'll pay you back in efficiency/reduced bills, pretty quickly. Is it as exciting as a new bass? No, but you've gotta keep the family warm or they'll set light to one of your basses to achieve the same effect. 🔥
  12. There’s always the JHS Vintage brand too. https://www.jhs.co.uk/collections/vintage-basses-1/products/vintage-reissued-v96-4-string-active-bass-black
  13. I’ve been toying with the idea of pulling the frets out of my HB Mustang-alike. Intonation shouldn’t be any harder than playing a normal scale, further up the neck. If you want to play up at the dusty end on a SS fretless, then greater care would need to be taken, I imagine. Tapewounds might help with that, they seem to on Rob Allens.
  14. Probably not helpful, but I joined my first band in my early teens, albeit on guitar. We were mostly fairly bad, so it didn’t matter. Because I had already many years of playing in bands on guitar, when I switched to bass it was with the intention of joining a band in pretty short order. I don’t remember how soon it was after jumping ship, but I’m going to guess at 3-12 months. One of the reasons I moved to bass was to get more gigs, I think it was 2000 (I’d previously moved to bass in the early ‘80s, but I was asked to join a band on guitar and went down that rabbit hole again for a good while). Try going to some open mic events, once you’re comfortable jamming with others, you’re ready for a band.
  15. I see what you did there @Goliath_FX
  16. This Ibby 505 is at GG in Edinburgh if you want to do some hands on action. https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/200325357674025--ibanez-sr505e-brown-mahogany-left-handed
