Sustain on the skinny strings of an electric guitar may be desirable, but on a bass? I’m with @NancyJohnsonon this. In fact, something that might limit sustain might actually be a good thing for mainstream music. Experimental, ambient and possibly solo pieces might be a different kettle of fish.

This whole album is timeless to me and still sounds great, despite being nearly 50 years old!

When some BCers say they're not much cop at bass.....
ezbass replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Very true. The reverse is same I'm led to believe. For the most part, I think bass players are quite self deprecating and are their own worst critics. I'm no different in this respect. Hence my complete surprise when I was ask to provide bass on an upcoming session, by a recording artist (more details to follow, if all goes well). -
A sad indictment of a lot of organised religion as a whole. However, whilst it doesn’t gladden me as such, that I can’t/won’t take part in organised religious services, I do enjoy the sense of freedom to practise in my own way, it my disconnect provides.

Not my first exposure to that scenario. And the potential alienation that goes with it? Be very careful, the whole thing could sour your relationship with the church. You might find yourself on the end of some very unchristian behaviour - "They say that they care but, their actions say otherwise," the evidence is already there. Best of luck with what you decide.

Sounds like the whole thing should be scrapped. I don’t get the sense that these folk care much about their worship.

Fretless ‘Rays aren’t that common, you might be surprised at the interest it might generate. Try selling it as a fretless and see if gets any traction, if it doesn’t, you can refret it then.

Rock Summer Schools for 'Vintage' Musicians ?
ezbass replied to RhythmJunky's topic in Theory and Technique
Don’t worry about age, it’s music, not sport. It should be a pretty level playing field. If it looks perfect (age notwithstanding) just do it. I’ve had 2 friends who did these kind of things at the Guitar/Bass Institute (I think it was there) and they were both middle aged at the time and both gained a lot from it (they weren’t there at the same time BTW). -
Finished Pics! A small acoustic 6-string for some special little people
ezbass replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Build Diaries
That’s a great tone for something so small and that hasn’t been a guitar very long (my acoustic guitars have all matured the longer I’ve had and played them). -

When playing a DB or EUB, open strings are always my go to, when possible. However, when on EB, not so much, no real reason.

Standard modus operandi for the Beeb is mimed except the vocals. Nile Rodgers plays guitar on that album track, that was Dom Brown last night, who is also on the album, as is Warren Cuccurullo.

Sure sign of a job well done. Great bass line, shame it wasn’t appreciated. Both quality tunes.

That alone made it the right decision.

It was a great time for amazing backing bands, with stand out bass players. The Spiders with Trevor Bolder and Alice Cooper with Dennis Dunaway immediately spring to mind.

Some quality album covers adorning your wall there, @AndyTravis.

I love when Dee comes in here, although his playing on the entirety of Love Lies Bleeding is a joy.

My old band recorded a demo of some of the covers in our set as a marketing tool for getting gigs. Two of the tracks were recorded with my old 4003s. Listening to the rough mix, straight after the session, the Ric sounded great, really growly, definitely a Ric. However, when it was mastered and the final product was delivered, all that Ric-ness had disappeared, just a generic bass tone. OK, it was probably more like the tone of the original tracks, but all the character that I liked was gone . The guy who recorded, engineered and mastered it - a bass player!

Deep end experimentation - kudos.
