  1. Yeah, I’m looking forward to those being readily available, as that’ll stop me having to customise long scale ones for my Hardly Bent-one.
  2. Short scale flats should be ok (assuming your new one doesn’t have through body stringing).
  3. They have one in Kenny’s, Dunfermline. Some details, but really detailed. https://www.kennysmusic.co.uk/fender-player-precision-bass-maple-fingerboard-ocean-turquoise-with-tortoiseshell-pickguard-p498
  4. A drink awareness campaign Spirits Bugger Livers
  5. Going up 0.005 on each string seems to work (at least with D’Addarios). I thought the black on your fingers was from a bland new set of La Bella flats (I’ve had that issue with them, when I’ve not wiped them down beforehand). If that’s just grim, eew!
  6. This does seem to be a recurring theme with them.
  7. Yes the tension is lower due to the scale. SS strings of the same type and gauge do not resolve this (I don't see it as a problem, more a benefit), there's just less waste and potential end wrap issues at the bridge and tuners. As to your picture; LaBellas?
  8. You are not wrong, endless walking lines can be wearing on the ears, not to mention fingers, and make everything sound the same. There is an awful lot to be said for concentrating on playing, rather than gear. However, I think a satisfying tone and the right feel under the fingers encourages you to play and practise more.
  9. A Canadian version of Budgie is another description I’ve heard and is even more accurate.
  10. It looks and feels very much like The Bass Gallery website. When I say very much like, I mean exactly like.
  11. They were all on their game for this gig. Joni's voice is especially good during this period.
  12. I've been listening to these and, unsurprisingly, I like the sound of the Evah Pirazzi weichs and Spirocore weichs. However, I am also very taken with the Presto Jazzicatos. I only have an EUB (NS WAV4) and have also heard those Prestos demoed on a Harley Benton EUB, which transformed that particular instrument. Ooh, down the rabbit hole I go!
  13. I haven’t watched it for a while, and can’t remember what I thought. Leave that one with me, I’ll rewatch and listen. The only thing I can recall is that Geddy struggles vocally.
  14. Exactly this ^^^^ I have had issues with flatwounds on longer scale basses with small pegs and none at all with normal pegs on short scales. If the manufacturers did short scale versions of my preferred strings I’d buy those but currently, they don’t.
  15. Not at all, just not your bag. If you don’t like Yes or Zep, you’re never going to like Rush. I do like Yes and Zep (although not all of it, not by a long chalk) so I was already predisposed to Rush I guess.
  16. Ooh, that sorts out filling any spare time I have going.
  17. Beautiful song, Peart at his lyrical best, the music isn’t bad either It’s not great, although I like the title track. I’m hoping for a remix of Clockwork Angels as I don’t like the original one, it’s just too ‘mushy’ (technical term) for me and the music deserves to breathe more. I felt that way for ages, but Planet Rock drip fed them to me and I started to like them more and more (always liked Spirit of Radio) until I started buying their albums. Already being a bit of a progger helped. The first few albums (pre Permanent Waves) is GL’s most screechy IMO, he started to calm down more and more and those are the albums I like the most. Sadly, he can’t manage those tunes now, although he tries. Like any band/artist, their work isn’t for everybody and it’s kind of nice that music has these niches (until you get the zealots chiming in). Jaco doesn’t do it for me, despite being a bass demigod, but he does for plenty of others, it’s all fine.
  18. Presto is one of my favourites (I know it is reviled by some fans) and you missed out Roll The Bones (another reviled album that I like).
  19. Fortunately, there is plenty of other music out there that you do like, Rush isn’t for everybody and it wasn’t for me for a long time (Geddy’s voice was a big barrier, but I’ve learnt to embrace it). Tell the band that you’d rather you didn’t play Rush tunes and why, plenty of other stuff, from other artists, to pick from.
  20. As an ex south of the river denizen, I often visited Bromley for shopping and played the Railway Tavern. Make sure you head over to the Short Scale Appreciation Thread if you haven’t already.
  21. Closer To The Heart Spirit Of Radio Time Stand Still
  22. Ah, 70s Rush, I can understand that, even as a Rush fan. 80-93 is my favourite Rush period (Permanent Waves - Counterparts).
