  1. In my experience, I find shorties to have more clear fundamental that long scales, certainly less overtones, and do not have less low end at all, regardless of pickup position.
  2. I did an exercise where I resized a number of popular basses so that the scales were all equal, in order to show relative positions.
  3. I joined a band playing stuff I wouldn’t normally go and see, just to get out there again (I moved house during the lockdown to the other end of the country). So glad that I gave it go, great bunch of guys, a rake of gigs and I don’t mind the genre as much as I thought I did. Plus, learning a whole raft of new songs is always good for your chops.
  4. Reminds me of my old ‘63.
  5. If it’s anything like my recent Thomann delivery, there will be another box inside that one, plus lots of padding. That area looks like a void.
  6. We’ll look past the Gillan album.
  7. Everybody Needs A Friend - Wishbone Ash
  8. Fleetwood Mac, massive in their Buckingham/Nicks period, much bigger than any of the previous incarnations.
  9. I saw Reef supporting Thunder at the Hammersmith, they were truly tuneless and awful throughout.
  10. Or black. Either way, that's a cool bass.
  11. Bat Out Of Hell, sooo long, overblown and awful guitar tone, I’m thankful for the skip function on Planet Rock*. Pretty much anything by The Doors and Kiss (see * above).
  12. What? No! The only problem with my gear is operator error and I’m not about to smack myself in the teeth.
  13. Thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering.
  14. This is where they score so well. I have a Telecaster (yes, a guitar, deal with it ) which used to be a CV, but now all that’s left is the neck, tuners and a few other bits and bobs. It has a different body and DiMarzio p/ups, but that neck is what makes me want to play it. This is why I want to try one of the current CV Ps (the black one with maple neck and block inlays), I’m hoping it’ll have that feel too and then it’ll also be customised within an inch of its being.
  15. For those who don’t remember the original Dymo labels that were referred to… No one would mistake these as manufacturer’s logos, it was done for a laugh.
  16. [cynical mode - on]Probably depends on if your selling it and how much you want for it. [cynical mode - off] I’d normally say 50 years+, but it seems ‘80s basses are regularly referred to as vintage, so perhaps 40 years+, which, according to the internet, is what antique dealers refer to as vintage too. However, they have an agenda (see cynical mode).
  17. I think I’m right in saying that it was nitrocellulose and, dependent on colour, by DuPont. Happy to be corrected by those with far more knowledge on this subject.
  18. The marvellous Jimmy Sims. Top player and a lovely bloke too.
