  1. My JMJ does soften the P bass regret a tad, as it’s very similar (if not the same) tonally and feel wise.
  2. I’m having seller’s remorse these days about letting my ‘63 P go. However, it was over 10 years ago and it went for what we’re very good reasons at the time and it allowed me to explore other bass solutions, I was not to know I’d come full circle.
  3. It’s that sense of entitlement that gets me. There’s every chance that target of the tirade is on the spectrum and doesn’t react as you’d expect. It’s plain that these people have never played to ‘staff & walls’ in empty pubs and clubs. So what if one person doesn’t react the way you expect, what about the rest of crowd? If the whole crowd was less than enthusiastic, then they’re not the problem. I despair!
  4. Sound man to bass player, “I’ve set aside 15 minutes to dial in your sound.”
  5. Hello, Download. Please give a big, Donnington roar for our headliners - ABBA!
  6. Good evening everybody, I hope that you’re ready to laugh and be buoyed up by our big act’s uplifting exuberance, please welcome to the stage… Roger Waters.
  7. List on the JMJ Mustang is £1400, which is about the same as the American Pro Mustang. US Js seem to be about £1960. MusicMan are similar with the offshore Ray34 listing at £1200 but a US Ray is £3k! It is all a bit crazy when you look back not that long ago. At least the low end of Fender and MM’s range are still good value, but I can only see them going up too.
  8. I suggest he doesn't give up the day job for a career in stand up.
  9. Also a shout out for Burke Shelley. Budgie had some absolutely fantastic tunes.
  10. That's all that matters. I've manufactured a small thumb rest from some dowelling, painted it white and attached where I like them to be, behind the pickup and a string's width away from the E.
  11. Fender originally designed these and their other models with tight, odd end adjustment, to have the neck screws loosened and the truss rod nut adjusted with a screwdriver. When I received my JMJ, we were in the depths of lockdown and I was in temporary accommodation, with no access to my tools. I did the relief adjustment with a multi tool, loosening the neck and making the adjustments with that. A fettled paint tin opener is a great tool that saves loosening the neck, however. Yes, setup is not different from a long scale bass.
  12. Ooh, I’ve used Riverside too (I think), there’s a drum shop there too IIRC. That was decent enough.
  13. I used this once, it was OK and fits your requirements. However, I did see something somewhere online that they might be closing, so worth calling to check. https://www.abbeymusicstudios.co.uk/getting-here
  14. It’s definitely a gloss neck. I often don’t get on with nitro finished necks due to the potential stickiness (yes, I’m looking at you Gibson ES335, PRS Swamp Ash Special and Fender Roadworn 50s P Bass) but the JMJ is very well cured and reminds me of my old ‘63 P Bass and I don’t find it any more sticky than a poly finished, gloss neck.
