The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
ezbass replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
To my mind, this is to balance the output of the series setting against the single/parallel settings. If you decide you prefer the latter two, engage the boost and adjust the knob height so that the lower output can’t be selected. -
You have £300 and you HAVE to buy a new bass today…..

For shame, kidding or not. -

£300 doesn’t get much from a physical store, otherwise Thomann and an HB of some sort would be in play. It would need to playable and reliable straight out of the box and that shouts Yamaha to me, so a TRBX of some description, probably this one… At £259 I reckon that’d do very nicely. -

Where are you based? It’s always extremely likely that someone might be moved to offload one of their collection to a nearby BCer. -
I was thinking this, certainly can’t hurt.

The shorty Stingrays are nice and quite small in the body if that’s an issue and there’s one in the for sale section. For great value for money you can’t beat the Harley Benton MV-4M (such a sexy name 🤦🏻). At around £200 delivered, it’s a solid purchase with some nice hardwood and plays well out of the box. Don’t overlook the Ibanez semi acoustic shorties if that look floats you boat (the AFB200 and AGB200) are well within you budget. The Player Mustang gets a fair bit of love too. For the record I have a ‘Ray, JMJ and a Harley Benton Mustang-alike. -
You need to chivvy your friend along. A bloke gifts a bass to a chum and then takes his time delivering it. Some people.

My Hardly Bent One Mustang alike…

Not listening to it right now (I’m enjoying some silence, well, tinnitus silence anyway) but I have been listening to some Be Bop Deluxe, as inspired by @Beedster’s new build project. Futurama and Sunburst Finish are just stunning pieces of work.

A great example of a situation being defused to the point of absurdity and then taking on a life of its own. Here, with some obvious thread exceptions, there are just lots of eyes rolling at the screen without the the need to put fingers to keyboard. It's a different kind of approach and BC is certainly the winner because of it. -

Likewise. The depression thread alone is a great example of the support available here. -
All that matters, strings you can change easily and, if you’re anything like me, are probably changed for your favourites almost straight away.

Guitarists... why are they such knackers
ezbass replied to spacecowboy's topic in General Discussion
I think the OP should be retitled, Musicians…. Why Are They Such Knackers. I have had a almost a week of passive/aggressive shenanigans from the drummer, with him manufacturing a scenario where he can take offence at something trivial and throw his toys out of the pram. If you want to leave just say you’ve had enough, don’t look for someone else to blame. FFS! 😤 -
'Trons are my second favourite guitar pickup, just behind P90s. So unlike PAF types, but still bucking that 60cycle hum. Easy access hollow area? Smuggler Tele!

Oofft! Bass forum or not, that's stunning 😍.

I bought it used from Germany, when I lived down south, back when you could buy things from the EU without being screwed with your pants on by customs & excise. They are a very forgiving fretless. It’s the bass I’ve had the longest there. When I bought the EUB, it was done with a view of only having that or the MB2. However, they do rather different things, so no plans to sell - at the moment. Your welcome to come and play it if you’re ever down Pitlochry way. What we need is a Scottish Bass Bash.

Yes it is. The other 'Mustang' is a Hardly Bent One take on the 'stang.

Harley Benton MV-4M Mustang-like bass. £198. Opinions?
ezbass replied to solo4652's topic in Bass Guitars
A small update. After playing it quite a bit at home, in rehearsal and live, as much as the ability to blend in some bridge pickup is nice, I'm not sure that anyone would really notice it in the mix and that neck pickup is so nice on its own and way more pokey than the bridge, that the blend is somehow less. To this end, today, I disconnected the bridge pickup completely and have left the blend pot in as a volume control (it's a better quality pot than the original I think and the same value). It is instantly less noisy when you're not earthing it with your hands and I can just enjoy playing the neck pickup, which, unsurprisingly, roars like any P bass, but in a smaller, more quirky package. -
I’ll play. Taken just now. The shorty ‘Ray is likely to be offered for sale I think as I’m more a Mustang guy it seems.

How old were you when you did your first gig?
ezbass replied to odysseus's topic in General Discussion
13 I think, may have been 14 (it was for was some old folks). Me on guitar, my buddy on drums and another performer also playing guitar (as I recall he had prosthetic legs). I can't imaging that it was any good or that the audience enjoyed it particularly. -
I seem to remember leaving a rather positive review of last Saturday's gig. I may have different feelings about it now, as I caught a dose Covid from it! 😤🤒😷
