  1. Safe as houses IMO.
  2. The shorty 'Ray manages to sound like a "Ray and that's passive. Pickup position is where it's at and the basis of electric bass tone IMO.
  3. Just the stand, which isn't signal chain at all , but the tripod the EUB is currently on isn't broken, so I think I'm busted. I've not been playing it much recently and was wondering if it was time to move it on (doesn't look like I'll ever gig with it sadly, as much as I'd like to ), but I tried folding the tripod legs in to emulate an endpin and it was just so much more fun that I pulled the trigger on the endpin immediately (I had considered one before but was distracted by abstinence in '24 and kinda forgot about it). I often wonder about a bow, but man alive is that a rabbit warren and potentially a very expensive one too. NS WAV4. I really wanted a proper doghouse, but there was nothing doing down south. Then covid hit, so even less doing and then we moved to Scotland (arrived the day before lockdown #2). Since then there have been quite a few DBs for sale that would've suited if I hadn't moved house. Driving the 1000+ miles round trip the try and maybe buy is a non starter. Nothing remotely available up here (at least not on BC) so I bought the NS. I think it's really good and, with some judicious EQing via a cheap 10 band graphic, I think it gives a very convincing DB tone (YMMV). It currently features as my entry in this month's photo comp.

  5. I agree, very nice.
  6. Bit the bullet and bought an endpin arrangement.
  7. BOOM! Tier 1 fail!
  8. The general vibe is dangerous. It’s a brilliant place, so much knowledge and advice is available from a great bunch of folks.
  9. You’ve come to wrong place to avoid GAS, I’m afraid .
  10. I’ve found Sire to be very helpful and responsive, so that’d be my first port of call for a replacement. If you can’t acquire a replacement from them or the other suggested sources, CPC Farnell might be worth trying. I bought my replacement knobs from them for my Maruszczyks to give them a bit of a Sadowsky vibe.
  11. Just watched this video comparing (at the beginning anyway) the SLB 300 to an acoustic bass, with Chris Mihn Doky, who is awesome IMO. I’m amazed by the sound, but at the cost of a 300, it needs to be really good. I’ve been struggling with the idea of keeping my NS WAV4, as I don’t play it live and seem to be playing it less at home recently too. This video, however, may be the spur to get right back into it and buying the freestanding peg might be a good way forward. Can’t see me buying a 300 though, as much as I’d like to.
  12. I had a 55-02 and the MM pickup was more like a beefy J pickup, same with the Sandberg VM I had.
  13. They Dance Alone (Cueca Solo) - Sting
  14. Ooh, a 55-01 with Nordy Big Singles or Splits would be awesome.
  15. I Hear You Knocking - Dave Edmunds
  16. Yes, yes there is…
  17. Just seen on Facebook that the Sire U5 gigbag is a fit for the Mustang. https://www.andertons.co.uk/sire-bass-gig-bag-for-u5-series/ Pics here for those who FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/116321885064706/permalink/25321547407448806/?
  18. Exactly. A better place to start is with the chords of a given major scale. If you start from the second degree for the C major scale, you get a D minor voice, if from the seventh degree, you’re voicing a B diminished (Locrian).
  19. Beech Baby - First Class
  20. I tripped up over my explanation, you are correct. The problem is that theory books often use the C major scale as a start point to explaining modes. I have edited my post, to try and clarify (I may have just muddied the waters though ).
  21. The Dorian mode of Bb starts on C, yes. This is where it becomes confusing. The mode refers to its relationship to the Ionian root. Now I’m starting to question my own thinking .
  22. That’s because it isn’t the Dorian of C major, it’s the Dorian of C, it being the 2nd degree of the Bb Major (Ionian) scale. If the key was C major, it’s what you would play over a D minor chord. Yes, it’s confusing and mostly a method of analysing melodies or solos IMO.
