Id go to Guitar Guitar in Glasgow and buy the G&L Tribute JB-2 thats down from 349 to 299. On the basis that I've yet to try a G&L Tribute, and everyone seems to rave about them, plus I'm a sucker for a deal.

That's awful in my view. I feel really sad that so much work has been put into that and they're version adds nothing to the song; it detracts. This is your classic situation of lazy musicians thinking that slowing something down and playing it acoustically will instantly make the song more heart felt and meaningful. I'm all for reworking old tunes, and there's a definite art to it, but this is uninspiring.

A wee warm up show at the Glasgow HMV, ahead of a big show case we're doing next week. This is my main bass and I've found no neck diving issues! I must admit, it sits in active mode but flat EQ for 99% of the time, along with the pup blend being 50/50. So, it's probably a bit sophisticated for my needs too. But it's very comfortable to play, and sounds what I want a bass to sound like on it's basic settings, so this will be my #1 for the foreseeable.

To be honest, a passive DI box of any sort will do the job. I;d be astonished if anyone could hear any difference between a £30 behringer and a £300 'specialised' brand. I bet if you bought a £30 behringer one, you'll still be using it in 30 years.

I would argue that is less natural. Fret noise is the natural sound!

Must admit, I like to do both! Both pretty light, but the one at the end the lightest. For me, compression isn't an audio effect, it's more to get the bass strings feeling good. Couple of comps do a better job than one single one in my experience! If I had to just go for one though I'd say the input compressor is more important.

Yep - although when I say 'as good as the real thing' it's more to do with no longer having that cheap and lifeless sound you got from older MultiFX over what you got from a real amp and real analogue pedals. Not that they are now perfect replicas to what they're modelling. Think only a true geek would be able to tell that difference. You could still to this day use a zoom 506 and get a sound that works for your tune.... doesn't make it on the same level as the helix stuff. Which reminds me. I've got a 506 under my bed, think i might crack it out for a wee play!

I've picked Line 6 (HX stomp) as I use that as my main source of tone shaping, but I've also got a zoom Ms60b on my board - I've always liked the zoom stuff, and the Ms60b is a no brainer for anyone that has one spot left on their board- I actually think the filters react better to the bass than the ones on the stomp! I know there's always been people saying that at every generation of MultiFX that they're as good as the real thing, but I genuinely believe the Helix generation of Multi's are actually at that stage now - especially with the IR tech available to us. Some of the guitar tones I've heard from guitarists on dep gigs who're using Helix's have been nothing short of incredible.

I've never heard of a mod dwarf! That with the midi footswitches looks a very capable unit!

If the band is going down the IEM route then amps are pointless and in fact make things worse. In my experience, it's best to get the stage noise as low as possible. It sounds like you're needing an amp for monitoring only, so I would go the FRFR route, or a small 1x12 combo at most in all honesty. Having to load in and load out a full stack every gig gets tedious pretty quickly!

This entirely depends on your band's PA set up? If your PA is doing all the heavy lifting then your amp will be purely for monitoring, and therefore you really don't need a massive rig. If you high quality monitoring already then you really don't need an amp at all - let you Helix do it all.

I use that Millennium DI box - 11 quid. It adds nothing to the sound and I've had zero issues with it. Not sure the benefits of spending big bucks unless you want one with a 'sound'.

I don't have first hand experience but I wouldn't expect there to be many small combos out there that would be a significant improvement over you Rumble. I'd be tempted to get a multiFX rather than changing the amp. Could get a 2nd hand HX stomp for around 350, but the zoom stuff is much cheaper and excellent too. That will cover your distortion and much more. Plus the amp models will give you a bit of variety!

I'm sure this has already been covered but if the tweeter is adjustable I'd do that. Or even try it with a different cab just to see if it's the cab that's emphasising the hiss. Also... have you tried it out in the wild yet? A hiss at house volumes will seem far worse than once you actually crank the amp at a rehearsal or gig?

Im a KZ ZS10 user. Not the pro or the pro X. I use memory foam buds, and I find them comfortable with an even sound throughout the frequency range. Can't say I've used many other IEM systems but these work perfectly for my needs so I've got no ambitions on upgrading any time soon. Although I will say when i bought them at first I thought they were pish.... they sat in a drawer for a year before I looked into getting new buds for them. The memory foam ones make such a difference.... I may look into getting fitted ones, but again, not anytime soon.
