I went to the North West Guitar Show yesterday and met up with the lovely Chris Dobson of Alpher Basses and Guitars. What a wonderful guy and I managed to blag a play on a couple of his works of art. The quality of them totally blew me away and I'm know suffering from the worst GAS I have ever experienced in my life. If you haven't checked them out, do yourself a favour and do so immediately. edit. Why I'm I upside down?
I was there too! Fantastic day, lucky enough to play a couple too

Hello Folks. I am selling one of Danny Worsnop's guitars. Danny of Asking Alexandria and We Are Harlot. Specifically the Electro Acoustic ESP LTD Xtone that was featured in the "Moving On" music video and played on the "Moving On Tour" in 2014 I believe. I bought this directly from Danny last year after winning the eBay listing and having the grueling task of having it shipped to the U.K from America. The guitar comes with signed proof from Danny aswell as a pic he used on the tour. The guitar also comes in the original ESP case which has the AA tour tag on it too. The guitar has player wear but has been well looked after, currently strung with Optima Gold Acoustic Strings. Any questions/more pics feel free to ask.
I go to quite a few of the northern shows, always an interesting few hours. Don't expect too much bass-wise, they tend to be mainly guitar orientated although this can vary. Some good deals to be had on accessories, especially strings. Often a few stalls with lots of spares which are hard to find elsewhere other than t'internet. Live music sessions are popular, and again vary a lot. When these are running it's the best time to look around the show as they draw a good crowd away from the stalls. Enjoy!
Lovely! So pretty much a market for gear heads then! -
Excited for the North West Guitar show! I must admit, I'm a guitar show virgin..what can I expect apart from lots of gear?

So, my beloved 1977 Jazz had EMG's and EMG controls, went to play it the other week after moving to Derbyshire and it's not working. Tried replacing the battery and checking all solderless connections were correct. Still nothing. One of the cables has buckled rather badly underneath the bridge pickup so I'm thinking that may have something to do with it. Anyway after my move recently I seem to of misplaced my soldering iron and was wondering if anyone could help a fellow BC'er out...I still have all the original electronics for my 1977, the pickups just need soldering to the pots and the grounding plates need soldering together.... Im absolutely skint but would be happy to provide tea, biscuits and a good chat about basses.... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Cheers C

In my opinion, a bass neck needs to be well reinforced to get a great low action. Wood moves, in my experience composite necks are fantastic for getting the lowest action imaginable. Basses with carbon rods in the necks also stand up to the tension of the strings so much better. So it's easy to get an action LOWER than 2.5mm at the 12th fret.... Nowadays I don't buy a bass, unless it's got a reinforced neck, I feel that non-reinforced necks are just inferior in general and just unstable.
