  1. Great shame. I remember watching Pat Travers support SAHB (without Alex) at Portsmouth Locarno. Superb gig and I bought the first two albums as a result. Excellent playing.
  2. Interesting that, even allowing for the picture angle, those strings seem to be misaligned over the pole pieces on John's bass.
  3. Not sure I agree with the last sentence.
  4. Far From The Madding Crowd. Beautifully evocative soundtrack. Oh, the proper version with Julie Christie, Alan Bates and Peter Finch - not to mention an appearance by Dave Swarbrick.
  5. A quiet evening in watching the telly for my Precisions - ok, that's all my basses.
  6. My 1975 natural and 1990 Japanese A/E.
  7. That's useful Can you post a pic of the exact bit of the stand? I would like to do the mod myself but don't trust myself to just interpret what you've said.
  8. http://www.argos.co.uk/product/4137058 Perfect fit for our Alto LIve 1604 desk. Folds nice and flat too.
  9. I bought what was supposed to be a Gibson Custom Shop 57 reissue. I had a thought about selling them online and thought I should get one myself to be satisfied about what I was supplying. I paid into an escrow account (so that I could authorise payment if I was happy) and waited. The guitar arrived, cased in polystyrene. It was finished in a sparkle gold top finish and was clearly not what I thought. That said, it was a decent guitar with good punchy sound to it. I didn't ever authorise the payment and so it is probably still sitting there. I kept the guitar (it wasn't too bad as a Les Paul copy) but wouldn't bother again. Just glad I took the approach of buying first.
  10. I fear I may be the guilty party here. The OP was about the offer of a demo of the Markaudio system and I jumped in enthusing about a similar (visually!!) system that seemed to great for its size and was intrigued by Bills rsponse. The concept of speaker placement is doubtless worthy of its own thread so sincere apologies if I lead things off at a slight tangent. Maybe a new thread on how to site a pa would be interesting, whether a single box or a system consisting of subs etc.
  11. I would feel aggrieved in your situation. They had booked you for the gig and it isn't on to give it to someone else without saying.
  12. That would certainly make sense if the bridge was changed for a Schaller. See John, if you're lurking, this is another reason we all want to talk about your gear. No questions about Queen etc. PM me to arrange.
  13. To the best of my knowledge he just had his 1969 bass sprayed black, changed the tort plate for black and had all the hardware gold plated. I don't believe there are any actual hardware changes.
  14. Sorry, maybe I was a bit tetchy there. I really like the idea of this kind of system but was intrigued by Bill's post on a more general level too - given the design of most systems. I suspect the Mark system is beyond my budget (or need quite possibly) but the concept is very appealing. I have ben a fan of the HK systems but they are very heavy.
  15. I can talk about whichever system I please. I am tempted with an RCF system that impressed me greatly at the week-end, at a price that seems worthwhile. Bill's post suggests that this arrangement is not the most efficient (as it is sold) and and so I am asking which is the most efficient set up for such a system.
  16. That's very interesting - considering most pa cabs have the drive units one above the other in a single enclosure. Obviously there is no chance of anything else in a single unit but what about these other systems. Take the Bose one. How should that be sited for maximum (sonic) benefit?
  17. Is the gender reassignment included in the price of the cab?
  18. There was a thread on here recently about the lengths that online 'tutors' etc go to get people to click on their videos. I sense another attempt.
  19. Something like this: http://www.rcf.it/professional-speaker-systems/evox/evox-8 This is the system the venue had.
  20. I played at a venue with an RCF line array system the other day and was hugely impressed with the vocal sound (also a bit of guitar and keys going through). Has anyone any experience of such a PA for full band? I'm not talking huge amounts of bass/kick but maybe a little reinforcement at venues now and again? I really like the apparent portability and ease of setting up - not to mention the smaller footprint in the back of the van and the fact that the PA won't cause hassles with siting the lighting.
