  1. Those would be my preference but I was assuming you'd want something nice and portable for jazz gigs. Didn't detect any lack of heft in the D-800. A good friend has just moved from an M-Pulse 600 to a D-800. I love playing through any of my amps but use the 600 for all my gigs unless it's small when I take the Walkabout. I reckon any of those you list would be perfect. I think it would be a pricey solution but I always thought an 8 ohm Walkabout combo with an 8 ohm extension would be a wonderfully versatile set up. I know many people say the Walkabout can do 2 4 ohm cabs but Mesa don't and I'd be worried.
  2. You know it's Rodgers of course! I enjoyed the show but I'm a big fan of his. He always comes across as a really good guy. His autobiography is an amazing read.
  3. 1. What makes owners of Mesa gear like it so much. (general question about Mesa gear ie build quality, support and availability) - for me it is extremely well designed and built. I have called upon customer service twice (not related to problems) and they have been very good. 2. What is it that made you pick that particular amp over others. (in respect to other Mesa amps or cabs and maybe in respect to other manufacturers gear) - my first amp (Bass 400 in 1988) was bought solely on a review that called it the Rolls Royce of bass amplification. I have used Mesa stuff entirely since then (save for a short period with an Ampeg PF500 and 1x15 cab). I have had a 400+ and also have a Walkabout and an M-Pulse 600. In side by side comparisons with other Mesa amps I have noticed some commonality in eq and sound. 3. Is there a favoured set up that majority of owners prefer or would prefer. - I'm a 15's kind of guy and started off with a pair of Diesel 2x15' but now use two Subway 1x15s. 4. Can you describe briefly your preferred tone (ie, warm, mellow, mid-punch, heavy bottom end, high top end are just some things i can think off) - think Bohemian Rhapsody. 5. what bass do you generally use with it. (just to give me an idea of whether your bass is passive, active or has a deciding influence on how your tone might sound) - Precision with flats although I started with rounds. 6. Finally what Mesa gear would you recommend for a Mesa Virgin like myself playing mostly classic rock with a Jazz bass but occassionally depping for other music genres doing pup / club material. Depends on what you want but I would be looking at a D-800 and the Subway cabs (whichever suits you best). The thing to remember with Mesa stuff is the eq is not straightforward. It took me 6 months to figure out how it all worked together (on the Bass 400 when I first got it). The eq is very sensitive and little tweaks can make a big difference. I have not had a single problem in the 30 years I have been using their gear and still have my original Bass 400. Wonderful kit and worth every penny. Toured with me all over.
  4. We spent about 80 quid on Ebay buying two pairs of photographic backdrop stands and a length of (lightweight) wide black cloth. We can now put up a backdrop right across the stage area (it is approximately the size of a football goal), pretty much wherever we play - if we need to. This was mainly done to play at a great club in Portsmouth that has a plain white wall behind the band and looked terrible in pictures/video.
  5. My favourite musical noise is a real Hammond through a Leslie at full throttle. Least favourite? Banjo I suspect, although that's linked to how stupid they look.
  6. I can think of two. Andy Baxter had a lovely stripped Precision a while back that I would love to have bought and, back in the 70's I really wanted the mocha Precision in a local music shop. Rosewood rather than maple.
  7. Great basses. I'm relieved Mark doesn't do sunburst although the thought of a nice (lightweight) mocha Precision with a rosewood board is seriously tempting.
  8. In fairness, the OP is suggesting the existing rules should be policed thoroughly. The mods state that it is not practical and that seems to be accepted. The discussion has widened to Trigger's broom but that's sort of a separate issue really.
  9. But they don't make cosmetically similar models.
  10. You reminded us (for the umpteenth time - and just as un-necessarily as the first) that a Limelight is not a Fender and I made the point that no-one had said it was. It wasn't intended as anything other than a statement of fact. I wasn't offering any contrary position to yours.
  11. I would have to say a Fender can only come out of a Fender factory myself but the wealth of parts (sold by Fender themselves) make your point a valid one.
  12. Now you're just getting tedious. Not a single person has stated anything to the contrary. You prefers Rics you say?
  13. Limelight don't use all Fender parts. I think some are licensed (necks certainly) but other parts aren't - they don't use Fender pick ups. Either way, they make instruments which Fender would be proud to make!!
  14. I really don't think anyone was disputing the legal point about trademarks. The issue was more about the BC reaction and whether it warranted a ban on sales of instruments which bore decals to which they weren't entitled. The conclusion appears to be 'none'.
  15. We all know. You proposed a similar ban on such things being sold on here (which could be anything, even on the sell anything pages) and this was rejected. What more is there to say. Yes, we implicitly condone it but we don't care. You seem to have one sympathiser as far as I can see but the mods have stated that nothing will be changing. Carry on by all means but it's your head and your brick wall.
  16. So the only solution is to ban all ads for fear of them not being genuine Fenders (or whatever). Is that what you're saying? You haven't provided your solution as far as I can see but forgive me if I'm wrong.
  17. The ones being held out as genuine Fenders by their description in each ad. Remind which of these are.
  18. I think the crux is that there isn't any (as has been explained). Any attempt would be called out within a very short space of time.
