I say this only to show how diverse people tastes (or lack of) are but I simply cannot stand to hear his playing. I appreciate my bank manager will take a different view. The plaque is, indeed, a nice touch and should be applauded. More of it, for sure.

I keep seeing (in my mind) that film clip of Woodie Allen playing the cello in a marching band!

I can actually play a C major scale on a tenor saxophone (that's because my dad was a phenomenal tenor player).

..................... and why do they turn up with 10 minutes to go before you start and hand you their microphone, put their instrument case exactly where you intend to stand and then wander off to the bar while you deal with said mic and then wait for them to be served. They always clear off moments after the last number finishes.

Just returned from meeting with Tim to sell him an Alto TX15. Great comms leading to a simple, no fuss transaction. Very friendly guy and a highly recommended chap indeed.

I would suggest two things (3 actually). Stuck your fingertips in the hottest water you can stand. I am l;ed to believe the discomfort is caused by the blood vessels being constricted by the constant flattening by playing. The hot water opens them up again. Sorry Jaco, but the washing up would have helped! Secondly (and I found this out) using flats makes the problem worse. I reckon this is because flats mean a greater surface area against your finger. That's logical whn you think about it, a bit like a grooved tyre and a racing slick. To compensate for all these when I'm playing, I tend to lick my fingers regularly.

It's not cheap that's true but it's great value for what you get.

I have just spent a thoroughly enjoyable and productive 4 days at a studio near Sittingbourne in Kent. It is run by a guy who has built a barn to house the studio and amassed a whole host of lovely vintage gear (as well as up to the minute stuff too). You can record through an old Decca mixing console and play your bass through a lovely Portaflex. Loads of Hammonds/Leslies and a wonderful array of old drums Mike Thorne is a drummer). I have no connection to the place but have spent a lot of time in studios over the years and this one is head and shoulders above them all. Not only does Mike put you entirely at ease, enabling you to play your best but his partner also provides outstanding food for lunch. We stayed at an inexpensive self-catering barn type place locally and had a great time and I strongly suspect that the CD will reflect the experience. Check out Rimshot Studio near Sittingbourne. I wonder what kind of venues you mean. I suspect most pub managers would answer a few very basic questions before not bothering with the rest.

A good griend of mine has a Bergantino 2x12 and that is awesome. I have been tempted, even as a die-hard 15's man.

Left a band becaue I didn't like the way the (female) singer was treated. She was replaced and I walked at the same time.

None at all. We're not a super loud band so it all worked brilliantly.

Our side fills are Alto TX10s and they do the job perfectly. The drummer's one is, indeed, on a short speaker stand so he and I can hear the vocals etc. Works brilliantly.
