Very nice indeed. I have a SUB that I have considered doing the same. Where did you get the tuners?

Michael $odding Buble. Taking my partner (who's a fan). The band will be great but I am not looking forward to it, in the least.

I wish I could get past the block markers.

This will always be an unresolved argument, as it's entirely subjective. We all have our preferences and that's perfectly fine. It may be that people do, indeed, overplay at first. Maybe, when they find their own voice, they will play less - maybe more. We're all different.

I've not heard anything. I still haven't had my order officially submitted yet. I'll drop Kris a line and post an update (unless @agedhorsebeats me to it). I'm assuming nothing's changed.

1961 Fender Precision Bass (Ex-Entwhistle?)
Steve Browning replied to NikNik's topic in Bass Guitars
My understanding that the reason for the sale was, shall we say, a little financial embarrassment. -
1961 Fender Precision Bass (Ex-Entwhistle?)

There was a spot where he'd dabbed on some black paint to hide a ding. The worst aspect was that the bottom E was just dead. New strings, nothing made a difference. -
I always sum it up (in my own mind) as 'the best way to impress is not to try'.

1961 Fender Precision Bass (Ex-Entwhistle?)

I actually bought 3 of these basses. A sunburst '61, a white refin '62 (JE did it himself over sunburst) and a '53. The '61 was really not a good one! Still, it only cost £575. -
I think I agree with you. I think the type of instrument you play also has a bearing. In my (old guard) simple way, I always think bass players are either Precision bass players, or Jazz bass players. By that, I mean that a bass that gives more definition (for want of a better expression) invites the player to play more notes. That's a massive generalisation, I accept, but I think there's a lot of truth in it. That's not to denigrate anybody at all. It's just what I've observed over the years. Additionally, people have their own definition of the role in the band and how it is achieved. Again, there is no right or wrong answer. It's entirely down to the individual.

Pop songs with good bass and drums!

That, my friend, is what a bass guitar should look like! 🙂 I always reckon the best Fender period is 1966 to 1973/4. Really great instruments but not at the crazy pre-CBS prices (although they're catching up).

I just don't understand why people feel they have to critique someone else's opinion? I didn't say it was all I could play and no-one tells me what I have to play. You disagree, that's fine. Let me just check I can cope with your derision. (One nanosecond later) - yes. I can.

I'm going to be flamed for this but there are two serial culprits (IMHO) .... many of NWR's bass lines with Wilko, and John Entwistle. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Norman Watt-Roy in the Blockheads etc but I find many of those Wilko bass lines too far too busy. I find the same with JE. I'm going to be in a minority of one, but the question was asked.
-
Absolutely. It's whether it's correct or not that matters. I was just giving a possible explanation for people to draw attention to it. For all I know, lefties may be the other way round. I posted a general question about the science of strings a while back, but we obviously don't have any string experts on here. Maybe I'll drop Rotosound a line and ask them.

TRADE PENDING Fender CIJ Capri Orange Precision Bass PB70US

I think the idea is that, according to Fender, that's set the wrong way round. The adjustment is supposed to be back from the thinner string above (or below) by the gauge of the string. "Now adjust the distance of the second-string saddle back from the first saddle, using the gauge of the second string as a measurement. For example, If the second string is .011" (0.3 mm), you would move the second-string saddle back .011" (0.3 mm) from the first saddle. Move the third saddle back from the second saddle using the gauge of the third string as a measurement. The fourth-string saddle should be set parallel with the second-string saddle. Proceed with the fifth and sixth saddles with the same method used for strings two and three." That's not saying yours isn't perfect but your set-up is contrary to the advice.

Has your taste in tone changed over the years?
Steve Browning replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
I think that's probably true in most cases. An isolated bass track sounds nothing like the final, mixed, product. -
Maybe they're trying to move to your area on the cheap. 🙂
