  1. A band I was in, set off some bloke when playing at Sandhurst. The 4 girls in the band did the most beautiful version of Runaway by the Corrs.
  2. My Mike Hill mini ground loop eliminator. Simple bit of kit that makes sending your signal to two amps completely silent. Proved to be invaluable in a studio setting when a guitarist insisted on using two amps and the hum was deafening.
  3. All my string orders to Rotosound begin with an apology for the time since the last one. I have put in orders, in the past, because I feel guilty I haven't bought any for so long! To my ears, flats give (what I can only describe as) a bigger sound. I don't go for ear splitting treble. They are tougher on the fingers (finger in contact with more string area, I guess) but they are my sound. I do have a couple of basses strung with rounds - the two 'Stingray' type basses. But all my Fender type basses are strung with flats.
  4. Surely he could have just sent a message warning her that the CD was a bootleg? We see (and react to) many a loft found Fender without encouraging Fender to sue.
  5. That does make sense as shifting a harp sounds like something very specialised. Takes pluck, I'd say. 🙂
  6. Exactly my view. Even the most expensive custom shop basses are close to ruined by the awful scratchplates.
  7. A while back I started a thread asking the massive how a loudspeaker works, and how it reproduces multiple frequencies. The result was a fascinating thread, which was very informative. This is about strings. What is the science around thicker strings being more full sounding and thinner strings being more twangy. I'm thinking standard bass and Fender VI, for example. How does a short scale string cover the same frequencies as a full scale string? Any experts out there?
  8. I have to disagree with you. At no point were you the problem. You tried to address the problem and have been spared the consequence of lowering your standards to theirs.
  9. I suspect much of the delay and charges are down to the fact it was undervalued on the documentation. Customs officers have hobbies too and one could easily have questioned the valuation. If the total fee is 300 you probably got away with it as that would include French VAT.
  10. To be frank. This is the best outcome for you. The gig will go ahead with a different band (there will be no shortage of volunteers) and you are spared a stressful run-up to the gig and a (likely) horrible evening with your reputation trashed.

  12. You didn't specify hearing, my friend. Most of the talk was around construction.
  13. To be honest, I suspect the amount of wear would give it away but a valid point in other respects. Differences in hardware aside, of course.
  14. It's a musical 'in joke'. Like drummers being thick. I doubt all vicars burp after eating a cucumber sandwich.
  15. Was it Jasper Carrott who noted that the Escort and Fiesta were both jazz mags.
  16. I think that's my overriding 'takeaway' from all this. As well as the angst (that may or not be bearable), is the effect on your rep. Your apparent anonymity might be something of a help but musos talk!!
  17. I am a Pompey lad. Born in St Mary's.
  18. It was good enough when the Luftwaffe came calling!!
  19. This. This means your reputation is on the line and you don't want that trashed. If you're not completely comfortable that the band can deliver, then pull the plug.
