I guess much depends on what you want? Was it all just an itch you wanted to scratch? You've been in the band a year. It's, I guess, a reasonably popular band on the local circuit, based on what you say. In many cases, that's it. If you don't enjoy the gigging that most of the people (on here) do, then progressing is going to be tough. As you aim to 'move up the ranks', you will be competing with (possibly) players with more ability, or experience. Much of anybody's progress is down to luck. I was playing in a similar band, based in Brighton, and was playing at a bonfire night gig. Afterwards, a couple of guys came up and asked if I'd like to do some sessions on bass for a forthcoming Pretty Things LP. I said yes, and was eventually asked to go on the road. That led to lots of other opportunities. Now I'm not putting myself forward as anything special. My own progress arose from doing exactly the sort of gigs you are doing now and I was in the right place at the right time.

What sales tax? There can't be a credit for zero. Shops and ordinary folk are on a level playing field. Do you mean credit for taxes on other costs (overheads etc)? If you don't understand incoterms then you may be better off discussing something in which you have some expertise. DDP means Delivered Duty Paid and means the exporter covers all the costs from door to door.

Not sure what you mean there. Exported goods are zero rated, whether by a business or private individual. It is the recipient who foots the import costs. Of course incoterm DDP will affect that but that's getting a bit technical.

The problem with that is that a business is immediately at a disadvantage. You need to be aware of the tax definition of what is business and what isn't.

I am assuming you're in the UK, from what you say. When you are buying you need to take account of; EU sellers and non-EU sellers are the same. For any price advertised, you need to add the cost of transporting, and import Duty (I think we reckon on 3%), and other costs and then 20% VAT on top of all that., That's how you would compare a non-UK price to a UK one. UK prices will be cheaper, if you can source what you want in the UK.

In fairness to BD, I had been after an Nordstrand Music Man type and it was out of stock on the web site. Suddenly, the status changed and I was able to order and get it a couple of days later. As has been said, the entire logistics business, in the UK, is in a state and this is just the manifestation of just that. I guess we just have to live with this random version of rationing.

I would look at the MIJ Squier in the classifieds (400 quid) and use that as your starting point. Importantly, the nut width is correct.
