It has to be said we're talking about a 2x18 here!

As above. I put off putting my cab on decent castors for years, worrying that the sound would be adversely affected. I took the plunge and found the sound actually improved.

Are bank transfers safe to buy goods from here?

No need to give you the 'lowdown' then!! 🙂 -

I certainly left negative feedback after my encounter with that individual. -
I have always thought of a Jazz bass as being more noodly. Probably because the notes are better defined which might lead to someone playing more of them.

I don't think a bank transfer offers any protection. -
Another band with the same name?
Steve Browning replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
So you changed the name to the New Originals? -
Have to agree. I've not really seen a genuinely convincing tort 'copy'. That includes those named after WW2 UK fighters.

What really impacts on your bass tone?

Yes. You can only speak for yourself, as did I. I am happy with my approach, less so with your condescension. -
A Tale of International Shipping

I am pretty CITES does not affect 'finished' musical instruments any more. Certainly that is what I have been advised. That's if that is what you were concerned about. -

I have to say, your last statement is rather troll-like. I play music that suits the tone I like and choose what I do accordingly. It is me making the adjustment. It is likely many of us do the same. -
I hesitate to state this, but might they be mistaken. I find it hard to believe that a company like Ibanez would be guilty of misrepresentation.
-
Certainly Ibanez themselves say it's ebony. How do you know it's ebanol instead?

Is this the bass you mention in the thread on 14/11/2023? It was ideal then.

What really impacts on your bass tone?
Steve Browning replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I must have been very fortunate my entire playing life. I use the tone I like and have only ever been asked (occasionally) to take out a little lower mid as it booms a little at certain points on some stages. I have no problem with that. Otherwise, I've never had anything but compliments on the sound. I have tended to play in bands without too many other instruments and the keyboard player is a wonderfully musical chap, who stays out of my 'domain'. Couple of numbers we double the lower end part but it's a free for all otherwise. -
20 vat reduction for all oversea buyer Eu and world wide!

I am an indirect tax 'expert' (others have used that term!!). This is more likely to be direct tax (income tax related). I think that sales at a loss will not result in an income tax bill, but HMRC will look at all additonal income so if you lose 2k on sales but earn 3k gigging then you may have an issue. Obviously you look at what expenses are deductible to determine any tax actually due. It's pretty easy to run at a loss year on year. You would need to talk to a direct tax expert for the full picture. I always rail against the 'man in the pub' so I don't want to put myself forward as that man. The test for business (in the UK changed) in 2022 and now consists of two conditions:- The activity results in a supply of goods or services for consideration – requiring there to be a legal relationship with reciprocal performance between the supplier and recipient; and The supply is made for the purpose of obtaining income therefrom (i.e. remuneration) – in essence, there is an economic activity. That probably captures most people selling here (or anywhere). Gigging will fall under the services tag, as no tangible goods are involved. -
When is Politics Not Politics?

What are the circumstances? Do you refer to the additional cashflow involved in the UK VAT rate or some other issue? VAT always gets my Revenue nose twitching!! -

Probably more, given that VAT is applied to shipping costs etc (sorry, slight attack of pedantry there). -

Steve Browning replied to J66Bass's topic in General Discussion
I started my training at the sub office at Chichester, then was based at Worthing and did the odd Summer at Portsmouth, as many of the VAT guys went over the road to do baggage bench or rummage duties at the port. Chichester and Worthing closed down many years ago and the old Portsmouth VAT office is student accommodation. -
Anyone bought from Thomann recently? Experience?

True. You should be ok but front line staff aren't always on top of the rules. -

Steve Browning replied to J66Bass's topic in General Discussion
Just for the sake of completeness. In the absence of the retail export scheme, travelling to the UK to buy the bass would result in a UK sale with UK VAT properly charged. -

Thank you. I actually retired at the end of August. Certainly nice to be able to help. A commission sale is slightly different in that the supply from the shop to the seller is one of services. If handled correctly, you buy the bass from the owner and the shop charges the owner the commission. Obviously the amount you pay covers both of these. I suspect in many instances that isn't exactly what happens but that is how it works in theory.
