Tuners on Your custom shop dream bass

Gotoh Resolites for me. -
24 hours late but I saw Robert Cray at Oxford New Theatre last night. Great gig. The guy has a very fine voice and his guitar playing is just sublime. Great band, too.

It appears wood has little to no effect on tone.
Steve Browning replied to xgsjx's topic in General Discussion
I don't think that can be right. If that is so, then it's possible for a 175 to sound exactly like a Les Paul. If we are saying the material has no effect then how does construction? The pickup has no idea it's attached to a large hollow body, any more than it knows it's attached to a solid lump of wood (or mahogany/maple sandwich). -
Waterlooville, which is near Portsmouth, on the South coast.

That's not a huge distance. If you want, we could find a rehearsal place roughly half way between us.

Acoustically, certainly, but I am only really thinking aloud here. If the body makes no difference then, amplified, would not all three sound the same because (as far as the pickup is concerned) they are the same? Not trying to be argumentative but just trying to understand how it all works. -
Just seen this thread. I am, indeed, a long time Mesa user. That's very much down to the quality of the gear itself. The TT-800s have just finished a two week UK tour and been excellent throughout. The combination of the Subway heads and cabs has proved to be a continuation of my original Bass400/Diesel set up. Where are you @Smiles? You're welcome to try my rig out if it's feasible.

I completely understand this. However, how does this work in the context of a Les Paul, 335 and big bodied 175, all with the same pickups, controls etc. They don't appear to sound the same but maybe there's something else at play. -

Just finished a tour as part of the Pompatus Of Love, backing Steve Miller guitarist Greg Douglass. This was a live Facebook broadcast. Small but enthusiastic crowd. https://www.facebook.com/GRATEFULDEADBOOKS/videos/508190320946793

Thank you. It was good to see you.

All I can say is that I am 10 days into a tour and the TT-800s are performing and sounding wonderful. I don't perceive any difference in sound between any of the Mesa rigs I've had (whether full valve or hybrid). As ever, it's horses for courses.

Another one ... Brighton's finest, the Desperate Dan Band around 1985. My last non-Boogie rig. Peavey 1820 cab (great at lows and tops but notes in the middle just disappeared) and Acoustic 220. That Marshall combo was 18 watts and produced the best guitar sound I've ever heard.

Levison Blade Bargain - Be Quick!!
Steve Browning replied to WHUFC BASS's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yes. That's great at that price. Finishes at 13:05 UK time. -
Hoyer. There's a name. Links to the Stuart Adamson thread as he tracked down the white Hoyer Les Paul brandished by Bill Nelson on the cover of the first Be Bop Deluxe album cover. Apologies for the slight derail.

Another vote for VLC. Dead easy to use and does exactly what you want, for zero cost.

Replacement for my mesa boogie diesel 1x18 and 2x10? Ampeg??
Steve Browning replied to Phil C's topic in Amps and Cabs
Not sure where you are but you're welcome to try the amp if it's do'able. -

The TT-800 has a channel that aims to reproduce the tone of a Bass 400+ and has a valve front end. The D800 is fully digital. The D800 is a fine amp but the TT is closer to what you have now. -

Excellent choice. I went from Diesel cabs to Subway and am enjoying the same sound without the weight (a Road Ready 2x18 is 107kg). When things open up again fully, I strongly recommend looking at a TT-800. I went from Bass 400 to 400+, then M-Pulse to TT-800 with the same sound and a fraction of the weight. The TT-800 rack ears weight more than the amp! -
Looks as though it might be sold.

Running a Mesa D800 without a cab/load box.
Steve Browning replied to Glennalli's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would check with @agedhorse but I note the manual (under the DI Level Switch heading) talks about using the 800 as a pre-amp. I have my TT-800s running even though only one has a speaker connected at a time. -
Given that my non-Precision itch is well and truly scratched now. I would only apply these criteria to a Precision-type instrument. I assume it is in good order (no bent neck etc). Similarly, I wouldn't consider a slab bodied instrument now (that's a lie because I'd love to have my '66 slab back) so this list applies to bog standard basses. weight 50's style nut width (I am so used to the late 60's early 70's B profile) colour (for some reason I find white basses look enormous when I play one) Precisions tend not to do neck dive so that's not a consideration. All the other stuff is easily replaced if the basic instrument is good.
