One of those is in the back of my rack, to power external stuff.

I raised this very point a while back but the demand is too small to warrant the dev etc, it seems.

By the way, I can highly recommend BCS cases, who are based near Wickham. They can make whatever you want. I have used them because standard racks are very deep and shallow ones a little too shallow. They've made some excellent custom backline cases for me too.

If you go down that route, either leave the space (for cable routing) or get a half space blank - for the same reason. The bass plugs into the tuner and all the other connections are at the back. If you don't leave a space you'll have to run a cable around the outside of the rack, to access the amp.

I would certainly say it's much colder at altitude than it is at sea level.

Amp Modder - ideally in Hampshire (UK) ?
Steve Browning replied to BigJHW's topic in Repairs and Technical
Not stalking you. Honest!! This is probably a simple wiring job for any competent electrician. "Amp modder" may put people off responding, as that's a pretty niche request. Your description of the job sounds accurate and probably amounts to a couple of screws and soldering two wires (in the right place). Where are you in Hampshire (I won't visit, I promise!!). -
Looking to get more "modular" with my cabs
Steve Browning replied to BigJHW's topic in Amps and Cabs
The tale I told always happened to me at the Eastney Cellars (when it was going). The stage isn't big and Steve (Pitt) would say 'that cab again' and realise why as soon as he heard it. -

Thanks, Einstein. I did see that (eyes can be such useful things). I am merely challenging whether that's a real gain. A BF cab is not the heaviest thing and so there's not really a huge advantage in the sheer weight division. If he is doing a two-cab gig then he's actually more inconvenienced, I would think (as I know, going from a 2x15 to 2 1x15's - they didn't make a 2x15 at the time). As for worrying venues, I used to get that wheeling in my 2x15. First note played and the guy would say 'ok, I get it now'. I ended by saying I was playing devil's advocate. I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting you don't know what that means. -

Given the fact that you're happy with the BF. What do you gain by changing? The size is similar to the two cabs you'd be getting, for the bigger gigs. The footprint is the same, and the weight will be similar. You'd have two things to carry instead of one. Just slightly playing devil's advocate but the BF will be very light and capable of being quiet if you use the volume control. -
Just imagine making a few c0ck ups during one song, being broadcast live on the BBC!! You just smile and keep going. A bum note is history, as soon as it's happened.

Cheap Lightweight Speakers On The Way?
Steve Browning replied to Phil Starr's topic in Amps and Cabs
So, vibrator motors will be getting cheaper? Wait for the queues outside Ann Summers. -
I guess much depends on what you want? Was it all just an itch you wanted to scratch? You've been in the band a year. It's, I guess, a reasonably popular band on the local circuit, based on what you say. In many cases, that's it. If you don't enjoy the gigging that most of the people (on here) do, then progressing is going to be tough. As you aim to 'move up the ranks', you will be competing with (possibly) players with more ability, or experience. Much of anybody's progress is down to luck. I was playing in a similar band, based in Brighton, and was playing at a bonfire night gig. Afterwards, a couple of guys came up and asked if I'd like to do some sessions on bass for a forthcoming Pretty Things LP. I said yes, and was eventually asked to go on the road. That led to lots of other opportunities. Now I'm not putting myself forward as anything special. My own progress arose from doing exactly the sort of gigs you are doing now and I was in the right place at the right time.

Hi John. Another Hampshire hog here. I'm just north of Pompey (Waterlooville).

Maybe it's all those images of Bill Murray, or machineheads picture of Brian Wilson singing with his band. -

Thinking of selling up........
Steve Browning replied to bassintheface's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Definitely this. -
All hail the 'expert'. 🙂 There are EU countries where the registration threshold, for a start, is nil. How does that work then? I'm afraid your 'man down the pub' advice is not correct in every respect.

What sales tax? There can't be a credit for zero. Shops and ordinary folk are on a level playing field. Do you mean credit for taxes on other costs (overheads etc)? If you don't understand incoterms then you may be better off discussing something in which you have some expertise. DDP means Delivered Duty Paid and means the exporter covers all the costs from door to door.
-
Not sure what you mean there. Exported goods are zero rated, whether by a business or private individual. It is the recipient who foots the import costs. Of course incoterm DDP will affect that but that's getting a bit technical.
-
The problem with that is that a business is immediately at a disadvantage. You need to be aware of the tax definition of what is business and what isn't.
