1. Thank you all for the input people. As mentioned all my 'usual' basses are 20 fret fenders. I'm ordering this specifically to provide something different to my norm so think I'm going to go with 24. I'll keep you all up to date in the build diaries section if you're interested... ;-)
2. Simply stunning! Can't wait until it's my turn to make a collection from mike but won't be until close to Christmas. The wait is killing me already. Looking forward to reading your full review!
3. Well? Did you pick it up? How is it? Where are the pictures??? Can't wait to see...
4. Hmmm... Interesting no one has any thoughts about increased sustain. I assumed the neck extending further into the body would give greater vibration transfer between body and neck resulting in more sustain. Turns out I'm overthinking it as usual ;-)
5. So I'm getting a custom build specced and trying to decide on the number of frets to go for. The question is this... Is there any benefit to having 24 frets other than the extended range? It's unlikely I'll play that high although guess for jazz soloing purposes it's a bonus but I'm wondering if the longer fretboard extending further into the body offers any tonal difference or improved stability etc? The bass is going to be a pj style super jazz with ostentatious fancy woods (because I'm worth it!) so I don't think 24 frets will look peculiar... Any thoughts?? Thanks!
6. Someone looking for a maple neck limelight on the wanted board...
7. Someone had an ad in the wanted section for one of these recently... Might need to scroll through a few pages!
8. Looks great! Glwts... Probably not appropriate to hijack this thread but I'd love to hear more about the incoming zoot! I have one on order with mike too ;-)
9. Ok, so this is a really hard thing to value and as such maybe I've overpriced? New price for sale or trade £575 including shipping. Don't forget I'm interested in trades with cash going your way so try me!
10. I have one of these and these things sound like nothing else. Absolutely thunderous! Glwts
11. Wow I'd never get rid of mine at that price! When you consider the db751 model is over £2300 in pmt this is a steal! Glwts...
12. Hey tom, sorry for the delay. Just trying to negotiate borrowing some scales. With my middle age spread I don't like to have them in the house :-) Will update ASAP!
13. Thanks Mike, yes she certainly has an interesting look. :-)
14. Repriced to sell! Now just £475 delivered! Very rare vintage and collectible Baldwin (Burns) Baby Bison bass from 1966 for sale or trade. This is a great opportunity to own a YOB bass with striking good looks, vintage sound and bags of mojo at a sensible price! The bass is all original in every sense from finish to pickups to electronics, strap pegs, tuners, bridge etc. The only exceptions are the pickup height adjustment screws and the zero fret which was professionally replaced when recently set up by Mike Walsh (Zoot bass luthier). The original zero fret is included in the sale. The neck is a 30” short scale with a lovely piece of bound dark rosewood, mop dot inlays and of a width and string spacing comparable to a precision. The neck and body are in great shape for a 50 year old bass with no real dings to speak of but a fair few lacquer cracks and checking… Nothing that affects stability though. In addition three of the scratch plates have a missing corner due to shrinkage (see photos). Also, one of the machine head gear covers has been dented and straightened out as best as possible (again see pics). The electronics are fairly quiet for their age but there is a tiny bit of a scratchy noise on one of the tone pots. This is minimal and is not a serious crackle that would upset any sound men if you change settings mid gig. Ive owned this bass for just over 20 years when it was bought for me for my 21st birthday which makes it a bit of a wrench to say goodbye to. However, since venturing into the world of J and P basses it has just been collecting dust. I’m now out of space and anyway it deserves to be played! Audition at my home in Essex (drinks/biscuits provided) or I can meet within a sensible distance or I can ship and will even split the cost. It doesn't come with a case but I’m sure I can figure out a way of getting it to you safely. Mostly interested in a straight sale to part fund an incoming custom order but I’ll listen to trade ideas with cash going in either direction so try me. I like Ps and Js but am quite broad minded :-) Thanks for looking!
15. Beautiful! You might want to change the subject line if this is no longer on hold Gary?
