Tried to walk out of Tank supporting Motorhead at New St Odeon, last night of the Iron Fist tour... Tank staggered out on stage clearly completely p!ssed already, were awful, my mate and I got up and headed for the bar (along with about 99.2% of the rest of the audience). Unfortunately we were both 16 at the time - he was over 6ft tall even then (I wasn't far off), he got in, I got stopped and had to go back and listen to the rest of the racket...

About 20 years ago went to see All About Eve supporting Fairport Convention at Symphony Hall - quite like a bit of folky stuff if in the right mood and have a few Fairport CDs lying around, but probably wouldn't have gone if AAE hadn't been there. Would have been perfectly happy to stay and watch all Fairport's set but (for those who know the place) I was in the very steep upstairs bit at the back and started to feel more than a little wobbly, don't do heights too well so had to leave very early 😞 was quite sad to miss the rest, they had been very entertaining till then!

A lot of it kind of bypassed me at the time, I was the weirdo buying OMD and Gary Numan as well as the rock stuff 🙂

Don't know if I've still got it (or where it is if I have) but I did have another compilation of similar stuff which may or may not have been all local bands (to me - Brum/Black Country) - Handsome Beasts is one name I remember being on it

Quite partial to a bit of Sabbath (being local lads and all that...I think I once sold Bill Ward some cat food way back lol), have a couple of mates who are hugely into this kind of thing; hope I'm not breaking any rules by plugging it, one of them has a Doom v. Stoner show Wednesdays 7.30pm on Hard Rock Hell radio (DJ Robo) and plays all sorts of old and new stuff

Recorded on this no doubt...

Many years back I bought OMD's "Red Frame White Light" on 7"; played the b-side first when I got it home and thought it didn't sound much like OMD - put the a-side on, it was "Echo Beach". Like a pillock I took it back next day...

I cant remember when or where I read this, so I might well be spouting utter balls, but I think if you don't bother to defend your trademarks etc from being used by one person then it's open season on them.
It's not quite as simple as that, but certainly allowing unauthorised use to continue once you're aware of it can make things very difficult for you further down the line; I actually work in this business lol (not a lawyer though!), one of our other offices handle stuff for one of the biggest bands on the planet and they/their management will come down like the proverbial bricks on anything that gets too close.

Would also go with Marillion... Odeon New St, 1983, a week or two after "Script..." had been released, they were still a bit of an unknown quantity. In almost 40 years of gigs I have never seen anyone hold the audience in their hand completely entranced the way Fish did that night, simply stunning.

As a student in the mid-80s I was interested enough to buy their first album. These days I wonder why...

Hot Chocloate's "Emma" could almost have been written for the Sisters Of Mercy...
