Think maybe I need to start acquainting myself with their post Fish output...

Wanted to make noises like Peter Hook and Craig Adams, just to see if I could. Still can't .

Right at this moment "Things That Dreams Are Made Of" by the Human League...in a pub in Chapel St Leonards ..having already been treated to Talking Heads and the Stones, while a band is setting up a few feet away and I'm almost tempted to peek in the guitar cases they've left on the next table lol

I used to spend Saturday afternoons in a certain Birmingham rock pub watching the scores, would often chat to a friendly guy I'd see in there about various things (but not usually music)...after about three years I found out he is the drummer in GBH...and we share a surname...

Lol not quite... it's Mike Visceglia, having just come off stage after Suzanne Vega's return to Brum on the extended "Solitude Standing" tour. Unfortunately a serious mismatch between artist and venue, the only gig I ever smuggled a camera into lol. The mate I went with (who took that pic) was an amateur bassist at the time and Mr V was very happy to spend a few minutes chatting.... I also met Ms Vega herself after the earlier Birmingham gig at the Odeon, when I just totally lost my tongue and stuck my programme and ticket under her nose to sign and all but ran off! -

Possibly more in the remit of another thread but couldn't find it lol... guess who is the spotty oik in line for an autograph and a bonus point for the autographer (NEC car park 1987 ☺) -
Helps listen to music rather than make it but I still have somewhere a Walkman-type cassette/radio which is at least 31 years old, sure it still works

Tony Pettitt. 'nuff said.

"How can you lie there and think of England when you don't even know who's in the team..." Can't stand Billy Bragg but must admit that is one of the great lines of our time
-
Seem to be a handful I often pull off the shelf... The Cult "Dreamtime" Joy Division "Closer" All About Eve debut album Fields Of The Nephilim "The Nephilim" (specifically side 2 for those who can remember when a disc had tunes on both sides :-) )

Peter Hook and Steve Morris, maybe not everyone's cup of Earl Grey but did it for me
-
Quo's "Rockin. All Over The World" always sounds far better to me than CCR's original but not sure how many might agree lol...in terms of "making" the original I'd say " In The Army Now" which I only discovered was a cover about two years ago! And although the band themselves might disown it now, All About Eve's take on Cliff's "Devil Woman" is just great. Then of course there are the This Mortal Coil albums...

UFO/Strangers In The Night (and in general).

Was a bit sad that by the time I found out about their farewell tour the Brum gig had already sold out -
The Power of Love - Different songs with the same title!

IIRC Iron Maiden and Fields Of The Nephilim both released singles called "Moonchild" in 1988 -

"Heroes' End" by Judas Priest - iirc Elvis and Janis Joplin? -
Tubeway Army's "Replicas" on CD at a loud enough volume to notice what I missed all the years I only had a second hand tape copy of it. Bl@@dy awesome.

Bands you think were better before they got big

Another one I'd throw in..."Mk 2" OMD. First four albums amazing. Added a brass section and I stopped listening. Although did see them on the Sugar Tax tour with Andy and hired helps and that was far better than I thought it would be. -

One that made an impression on me back in the day was "I Don't Like Mondays"... Watched it last night for the first time since it was in the chart and still find it creepy -
Lost enough photos to a hard drive carking it, wouldn't want music going the same way so vinyl or shiny plastic for me (still got loads of cassettes as well but don't know if they'll still be any good after 30+ years...)

Have in the last couple of days just got the line "drop an atom bomb on me" stuck in my head and for the life of me can't remember the song.... mid 80s, chirpy Scottish pop band (or singer at least) s I recall. Google no help...anybody know anything?

Might not be the most technically genius-like or complicated but Hooky's "Transmission" and "Sunrise" do it for me.
