Your right about the bridge its a gnats chuff out but other than that it plays superb, both e and g bend in due to the narrow neck but the g slightly more I did have a choice of pick up covers (which are wood),one being the same colour as the neck but went for this one which uses the same colour woods as the neck binding, got two gigs this weekend so will give it a shake down and see how it plays live, cheers for the comments though
I could quite happily take the Pepsi challenge and make any bass playable. In fact, how about a challenge for one of the bass bashes? Bring a bass in any condition, as long as the electronics work, If I have a supply of cheap strings and tools I will make any bass play brilliantly. I'm not an expert, I just have a lot of experience of playing cheap basses and making them gigworthy.
I agree a set a of strings and a few tweaks and bobs your auntie as long as it hasnt got a banana neck I would do good suprising how many players have got a great bass that just needs setting up properly

Thanks guys,I agree about the carl thompson connection great story on his website, the active is simply monsterous,27 frets which are playable 32" scale the body is is really thin and so is the neck width 1 3/4" at the nut and 2 1/4 at the (not so) dusty end,but really deep almost feels round a true joy my day to day bass has been a thumb for 15 years but this is well a different levelHe's done a ct style 6 string rainbow bass too,

Well it arrived this morning from Mr Bilodeau,Canada this morning and I cant put it down, lots of exotic woods and an action that would put a gnat at a limbo competition down, sounds a cross between a MM and warwick thumb growl and hi fi its just unbelievable check his website, and its the only one in the world

Do any of you guys know what the hell this is?
hi i have two MEC pickups from a rockbass streamer i brought the bass from ebay in october, took it to bits, stripped it, primed it and was going to paint it a cool greeny blue colour and give it to my girl friend who played bass but had to get rid of hers for money reasons. anyway, single now so i have plans to fill the pickup holes and replace with a singel p bass pup or somthing - love the neck - not a fan of big ballsy warwick tone so im gonna try somthign a little different. any offers on the pickups? they are identicle so i will sell them individualy if needed. or would swap for other pickups. would sell with the springs that go underneath. possibly with pots and knobs too.... cheers karl
what are the sizes,many thanks

O.k here is the long drawn out question, just recently aquired a batwing sb700,was painted blue! after market paintjob,so stripped it back to perfect wood finish, perfect ultra low action but here is the question, the sound is a bit woolly standard pick up 100mm x 40mm,4 screw fixing through the pick up one vol one tone and some in out phase pup switch, want to upgrade would like a growl with some great highs, could go active anyone any suggestions or upgraded their own on this size of pup,any suggestions much appreciated

I have played a number of fenders old,new whichever, and yes agree that they have 'that' sound and have not changed for yonks, bar pick ups then only to become more modern in sound.but as with most things in life we have a little thing called progress.I know some people will have all the old school set up to get that sound, but as amps and speaker technology changes so do bass guitars, and its all a matter of what a player likes, there is no right and wrong just different tastes. The world would be a very bland and boring place if we all like the same things, personally I prefer a 'modern' sound but a classic fender sound I will use with certain recordings or playing with certain bands, its whats required or what sounds and feels right(or wrong).I think for the money there are better sounding instruments and better looking but again thats my taste. Do we all still use sm58s for main vocals, god forbid no,but thats another story
