  1. Yes, but the bar staff are serving beer which the customers are already prepared to pay money for ! The band may be serving up music which the customers are only prepared to taste if it's a free sample.
  2. Here's an analogy, Daz. Would it be reasonable for a shop to ask window shoppers to pay a fee just for looking in the window? The answer is clearly no, and similarly as a musician or a band you're setting out your stall of whatever music/entertainment you're offering, and maybe people will come and have a look . Then if a demand builds up because people like what you do maybe you can start charging. But not until that point has been reached. 🙂
  3. Well, Higgie, your Welsh Wizard has done an A1 job on the arrangement for the medley - faultless. And you're no slouch in the playing department either - love the clear open B on the Sadowsky at 2.42 !
  4. Hey, that's a bit rich. Jolene on reception at the studio did have a bit of a weight problem, but James never called her a fat rascal. And as for the curd tarts, - well, they were just there for a 'work experience week'. Apparently.
  5. Ah - now I know what to do with my knackered old roundwounds - - just advertise them as 'authentic Jamerson style relic -ed reissues' 😁
  6. Can somebody explain how the bass (or guitar) is attached to the stand?
  7. Sorry mate, missed your comment somehow. Yep, could be, any offers? 🙂
  8. False endings/encores are nothing new and are all part of a show - in music hall days this device was known as a 'false tab' ('tabs' being the side curtains on a stage) I don't get why some people are so wound up by this idea. Just enjoy playing music and listening to music, whatever..
  9. So here's a guy called Nate Wood - he plays bass and drums and two synths and sometimes sings - and all at the same time, live. Very clever and obviously talented, but........err.......why ?
  10. I can't imagine I'm the only person to have to Google this to find out what you're on about. Just to help the uninitiated: Record Store Day is the one day of the year when over 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Thousands more shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.
  11. Martin McAloon was a seriously underrated creative bass player - Prefab Sprout were a superb band with Paddy McAloon's beautifully crafted songs. I always felt their rather silly name never did them any favours, but their music still sounds refreshingly good 40 or so years after it was released. 😊
  12. No, it's still here! Surprised noones gone for this - it really plays well and sounds so good. As a first base fiver, it really doesn't get any better.
  13. You already clearly have a very professional attitude to your playing, and that's half the battle already won! I wish you the very best
  14. it's just been announced that pubs will reopen indoors from Monday 17th May. Good news, but I can't imagine that there'll be a huge amount of work for bands in the short term - landlords just have to be open, and won't be worrying about trying to offer entertainment incentives to attract punters. Other opinions are available - discuss. 🙂
  15. I've just offloaded a faithful old Peavey Megabass cabinet on ebay and replaced this with a Vanderkley 212, which not only sounds better but is literally half the weight. The annoying thing is, I pulled my back whilst trying to weigh the b####y Peavey on the bathroom scales, so I could state the weight in the ad. 🥺 I then decided maybe it would be best NOT to state the weight. in the advert 😁
  16. If it can prevent nightmares like this stinker at 0.29, I'm all in favour 🙂
  17. If you're somehow 'plucking from underneath' (and not as a part of slap and pop technique) then I'd suggest you are using a very unusual technique akin to fingerpicking on the guitar, which most bass players wouldn't recognise. Please tell us more ! 😮
  18. Now I'm confused. You'll have to explain what you mean.
  19. Bought a Vanderkley cab from Mark. Top guy, excellent communications, all good Thanks Mark 🙂
  20. Bass player's interest in how many different basses he's taken to the pub gig = 100% ! 😁 Other members of the band's interest - 20% 🙁 Punters interest = 0% 😑
  21. "So, you play in a band, do you ?" "Yes, but I'm no lead singer or guitarist" "Drummer ?" "No" "Keyboards ?" "No" "So you must be the roadie, then ?" 🥺
  22. So, take a very talented guitarist called Joe Parrish and give him the complete scores for the incredibly complex 'Rite of Spring' by Stravinsky. And then lock him away in a studio for a year or two. And he comes up with something so seemingly impossible you can't believe it. The sheer dedication alone is jaw dropping. And note for note, it's absolutely accurate to the original score. Enjoy.
