  1. Correct, the steam-out trick only works for unfinished wood. I got a spot out of a Rosewood fretboard that way easily, when I dropped my multimeter ON the board 😲 Didn't work at all with a ding on the back of the body (natural finish) or the back of the neck, however.
  2. The assumption has been that different sized drivers will complement one another, but there's too many other factors. Even if the cabinets are rated for the same Wattage & Impedance, there's sensitivity to take into account.
  3. Make Instrument cables, that way they'll work with your bass.
  4. no trouble getting the high-end out of this rig: but it was loaded with an aftermarket tweeter & the woofers also get all the frequencies
  5. Is there a particular cabinet SET or SETs made my Mesa that are Engineered to work together? Commenting strictly to ones that are not identical, of course.
  6. When I was trying to find a rig for both bass & guitar, I found the response curves weren't all that different, & it surprised me a lot that even guitar drivers have a steep roll-off on the high frequencies. So, what is the difference besides the xMax?
  7. The Spoonerism in me is thinking about the Staked Rage I witnessed at lunch today, LOL!
  8. That's an awfully big WHEN, which usually would not apply. It would only be applicable if the cabinets are of the same brand AND designed in such a way. 99% of the time when people want to mix, it's not the case.
  9. Again, it's no myth that you get better efficiency if all the drivers are the same. Mixing drivers & different brands has unpredictable results.
  10. Took me years to start learning Goth stuff, not sure why I didn't think of it earlier. I've always loved the driving bass arrangements in so much Goth.
  11. A light touch, you don't need to dig in for every note, only accents. So, turn up the volume on the amp, & strike the strings with less force.
  12. our local big name bass vocalist passed away last year:
  13. There's a guy in Alaska who plays lefty, & he returned a Premium SR, because it had a spot where the finish has worn off. Now he's kicking himself for losing the Nordtrand's & unable to find another Lefty Premium SR. The one I regret is a 4004 Walnut Rickenbacker that I could have had for only $1,750 USD!
  14. I stopped recording myself ages ago, for that reason. but it does remind me of a song (it's in the lyrics):
  15. I'd prefer soaking it in cider. Kimchi juice doesn't go to waste in this house, we add it to our condiments, a blend of: fish-sauce lemon-juice garlic chilis
  16. Weird! There are tech companies in the SouthEast province from Bangkok, like Seagate. You can get Seagate drives cheap as chips around there.
  17. It's the most comfortable instrument I've ever owned, tennis-elbow is a thing of the past. However, now that I'm able to play more, I'm developing a tiny callus on the index-finger of my fretting-hand. I don't enjoy that at all, it kills the sensitivity in my fingertip.
  18. ABS plastic, which is how it's so lightweight, under 10 lbs. I was hoping the concept would catch on, but haven't seen others combos or cabinets made of ABS yet.
  19. What I'm wondering is, if it's made in Japan, why isn't it sold in Japan or Europe? Apparently some models that are produced in Indonesia are NOT available for sale in Indonesia.
  20. example of gameplay: no, that's not me in the video I'm one of those rare people who simply cannot learn by ear, even after loads of ear training w/o fruition, so Rocksmith was the fastest way for me to learn. It's basically animated tablature, or bass kara-okay, LOL!
  21. George Lynch (of Dokken fame) has some really nice custom-built ESP guitars! They're hideous IMHO, but they are well-built, LOL!
  22. Samsung are likely MIK, which is actually good-quality stuff IME, my LG TV just keep going and going... My Motorola & the Apple phones might have been made in the same factory in China.
  23. I'm on my second local stringed-instrument repair-person. The first one asked me straight to my face: Why do you waste your money on those imports?! The luthier I take my instruments to now is a firm believer that Japanese Ibanez are The Best.
  24. fun fact: one of our Presidents had some Japanese masters of martial arts hired on to train the Secret Service & CIA in Jujutsu I worked in Japan for a while & there's a pride in their work, read up on how many times they 'fold' the steel for a sword. personally, I'd rate Japan's craftsmanship in general best on Earth You might not guess it, but I found good products in Taiwan as well, when I was purchasing steel valves & piping products.
  25. let them face off in hand-to-hand combat & I'll bet the Japanese would wipe the floor with them 😀
