The 'custom' Bartolinis are still tame in comparison to the Big Singles. just not a sound I want You can tame the Nordstrands with EQ or a mute (to sound Vintage like the Barts), but you can't 'soup-up' the Barts to have the edge of the Nordstrand.

ESP price their Japanese-made stuff about 4x more than the 'equivalent' LTD models. Same here, but I detest Bartolini pickups, & the Prestige are actually about 500 Grams higher-Mass than a Premium. The fancy top probably has a negative effect on the the overall timbre. resin? The thinner the finish, the better, IME The Purpleheart stringers in the neck probably don't make a noticable difference, so I stand behind 'everything that matters'. Is the different woods, resin top, & superior craftsmanship worth over 3x that of a Prestige?

TE's 2x8" is nice, but it's loaded with Faitals RevSound has a fantastic 2x8", but it's loaded with Celestion I prefer any two-driver cabinet over a single 12", IME the smaller two driver cabs have more Punch, & that's what I want.

Yes, I've already measure pole-spacing & other dimensions, I could just move the Big Singles into the EHB. I asked the local luthier how much he'd charge to swap them, I 'could' do it, but I'd rather get a pro. He wouldn't actually answer me & said more than once that he'd leave the EHB as-is. I've compared them directly with the same strings on when I first got the EHB & I thought I could live with the difference, but now I feel a little differently. For the moment I'm keeping them both, so when I want that extra BITE I'll grab the SR1800E. For now it's my B-Standard bass (Type-O-Negative).

The local luthier quoted me $100 - $150 USD to put in LumInlay brand dots. I love my EHB quite a lot, & even have considered selling all my other instruments, except perhaps my bongos. The only thing that bugs me about it are the 'luminescent' fret-markers on the top side of the neck. They don't glow for long at all, even when using a UV light to charge them, but they're initially darker than 'normal' dots: As usual, I wish it was an amalgamation of the SR1800E on the left, with the Big Singles & the standard fret-markers. I like those John East knobs & will see if I can buy some w/o buying an East preamp.

Ha-Ha, I read John East & automatically thought PREAMP. TBH the EHB preamp is the only one I've actually liked, on other basses i don't like the fact that they're not parametric like the mid-sweep on the EHB. Here's a fun fact, they're using the same preamp as many many other models, but the one on the EHB has the VM3 module plugged in for the mids-knob.

What is the active/passive switch wired to now?

It gives my head a wobble when I think about it, but many songs have been ruined for me by trying to learn them, there's two categories: songs that are so bloody easy that it's boring, (AC/DC anyone?) songs that are just beyond my skill level, even after months of trying These days I'm noticing incremental improvement, but I still can't play Ghost's Pinnacle to the Pit in tempo.

They can, the Hercules hanger with the Narrow-Neck adjusters installed will work for hanging it: Just a few months ago a guy on Talkbass had the exact same thing happen. He received it in good condition, but it cracked all on its own. It's the 'roasted' wood, makes it brittle. The local luthier told me people come to him these days with repair work just from tightening the machine-head nut down too tightly on a roasted maple headstock. It does make the wood stiffer, IME, but aren't there always compromises? I bought a Gator Transit case for mine, but only just found out yesterday there's a more heavily padded one called the Pro Ultimate:

These gals have been 'talked' about on all the forums, except for the one that won't allow 'hot chick' threads. That gal from Pretty Reckless is really attractive as well, & was also in How the Grinch Stole Christmas: I won't even post a photo of the two incredibly lush gals from Butcher Babies.

If you think the SRX was wild with the PFR (Passive Full-Range) pickups, I used to own a BTB300 with the same pickups & more robust preamp:

The Bartolinis in the SR500E are not split-coil humbuckers, they're the newer BH2, full-length humbuckers. MK1 Bartolinis is what Ibanez used for a long-long time in the SR500 (no E). The SR500E also has a new active/passive switch, which the SR500 did not. Personally, I like the PowerSpan pickups in the SR300E, SR400EQM, SR370E However, any of the aforementioned will have dodgy machine-heads, IME Ever since Carol Kaye parted company with Ibanez (2011), they've been putting chintzy machine-heads on all the Standard Soundgears. No big deal, you can get GOTOH Res-O-Lites that are drop-in replacements & they'll even take some Mass away from the headstock. Hiddens gems are the old SR eXtreme (SRX). Carol Kaye still uses one today: If you can find one pre-owned, they are likely the best value-for-money out there!
