  1. There's also phantom-coil or 'stacked' J-style humbuckers. They would probably provide more low-end, but at the cost of responsiveness. Many would describe stacked humbuckers as 'tame'.
  2. Furthermore, just because your bass has a battery doesn't mean the pickups are active, check for a Power wire to the pickups. There are many active basses with passive pickups, where the battery is for the onboard preamp. The bass you had was a SR305E, the E denotes that it has the newish PowerSpan pickups.
  3. DOH!, EMG didn't click to me at first, but IF your pickups are ACTIVE (battery powered), you will not be able to wire them in Series. There's a couple of reasons, 1 is the onboard preamp, feeding one into the next will cause clipping, but 2 = they combine the battery (-) & pickup coil (-) wires.
  4. Well, Black Sabbath is the original Heavy Metal band, so everything Heavy Metal is a derivative. That's why I state I am into both genres: Black Sabbath Motörhead
  5. I'm surprised no one came along to claim you cannot have Series wiring & independent volumes, but it's coming, so there's the diagram: credit to Walter W who works at Alpha Music in Virginia Beach, VA
  6. That depends on which switch position you enjoyed the most, but a series wiring scheme for two J-style pickups with independent volume should be able to accomplish all those sounds. In Series they have more output & more lows, but only if they're both turned up.If you want the highs back you dial back the volume on the neck pickup.
  7. I used to own a Rickenbacker 4004 & when I tried a SR370E with PowerSpans it reminded me of the Ric, so responsive! My only complaint about those pickups is there are only 3 conductors available on the outside, so you can't do series/parallel.
  8. Those are PowerSpan pickups & they are very bright in comparison to other humbuckers. IMHO they are The Best OEM pickups Ibanez has used since the PFR (Passive Full Range) that they put in the SR eXtreme (SRX).
  9. There are LOADS of different kinds of humbuckers out there, DiMarzio's J-style pickups are exclusively humbuckers. Model J is a fave Another option is to just wire the two J-style pickups in Series
  10. I enjoy exactly 1 Ghost song, & of course it's their heaviest one.
  11. I agree with all those points, so it is irrational that a chassis Ground to the controls-plate doesn't bother me, LOL! I guess it's because I know in my ownership it wouldn't be an issue, but I can see how out in the wild, it could go awry for many ender users. The other thing is those giant Capacitors are such overkill, rated for hundreds of Volts, & we're lucky to get 1 Volt from our instruments. Also, if any pot comes loose & turns, there's a broken solder joint.
  12. Ha, I knew you'd have a different name for it, I only know bonnet. Here's another fender:
  13. You were extremely rude when you questioned my ability to read TWICE. I've seen many rusted fenders, as well:
  14. There's no shame in choosing not to be rude, as well 😀 100 of Fenders?, are you exaggerating?
  15. If your bass is rusty you have more serious issues.
  16. There's a new DarkThrone album out on 25-June, I will definitely give it a listen. Other people like Funky Music, I like dark & heavy Music. People claim you can't dance to it, but I can get down to some Black Metal!
  17. I like a personal anecdote for reasoning & it drives me bonkers when I use a personal anecdote that is summarily ignored by the naysayers. Even when the jack is tightened into the controls-platre properly?
  18. I have a strong aversion to people soldering a Capacitor between two pots, straddling them. It's almost irrational, but there is a reason. but the inherent Ground provided by the Mechanical connection to the controls-plate never bothered me Fender used discarded floor tiles for inlays, in the early days.
  19. Fender used the controls-plate for chassis Ground for a very very long time & it worked just fine. Have there been studies that show a Mechanical Ground isn't as good as a soldered Ground?, I doubt it...
  20. IF you put two 9 Volts in parallel you twice the Current, but the same Voltage two in Series = 18 Volts
  21. It's possible to discard the hand you're dealt.
