Hmmm. I took the stock strings off and replaced them with Hi-Beams. Back-to-back, playing with strings I know are SS after playing with the stock strings, I would have guessed the stock strings were nickel plated.....
I Took the stock strings off and put on hi beams, took the hi beams of after a week, snapped one and others tight as a cheese cutter. put roto ss on and keep the stock as back up, pretty sure there nickle.they will do as spare on my jass or ray as they have nickle strings on them. didn't like the hi beams at all, not for me. but thats a different story
Where can these be picked up for £599?
got mine from andertons but think they may have all gone now, think Gak and Pmt may have some at a good price.
Someone over at TalkBass suggested that Gibson are now putting Cleartone strings on the basses from the factory.
I emailed Gibson to ask, and they told me they were stock Gibson strings, but you cant buy them, there just using them up.

got one two, really underrated bass, plays like a T bird (a bit) but much comfier and more playable. love mine, standard stock strings on it aren't bad either. i reckon these are keepers and may prove to be a vintage class in a few years, like the original stingrays
More bad news for Gibson. Moody's have downgraded them to "negative"
money and profitability is not everything. Aston Martin used to and pretty much still does hemorrhage money, they still make some of the worlds greatest cars. an american gentlemen allegedly went to Aston martin in the 60's to buy a bond DB5, he asked "how much" they said "£4000" he said "no i want one at cost price" they said "ok that's £5000"

they look like they make some nice bass's like this one but would prefer the squared head not the P bass type. great value, do they play well. http://chownybass.com/product/retrovibe-by-chowny-vantage/

got mine yesterday played it all evening g, playing with settings. this is serious low end monster, wouldn't think so for what is a super light bass. it does any Frazer, john Entwistle and everything in between. great bass for hard rock classic rock/metal/ prog, punk, reckon it will slap a bit as well,( but that not my thing and other basses probably do that much better.) very much plays like a T Bird but coil taps give it another subtle dimension. its a bit lacking in mids, but some eq evens it up. better with a 50 G string than a 45 as well. its got a great neck, thin but not too much long but not too long. cannot go wrong with these Gibson usa made at £600 anyone thinking about it, just do it. i love it. played my Ray34 afterwards and that sounded like an elastic band on a tin can in comparison.
Has anyone with a Thunderbird played one of these? I love the thunderbird sound but the possibility of a lightweight package appeals.
yes i have, very similar, thats why i went for it, the Tbird's are not the best to play standing up when you have some belly on you. its a fair swap i'd say. specially with a slightly heavier Gauge steel string.

Just ordered a new 2017 EB, £599. from Andertons. couldn't decide between the fender dimension delux or this, but went for this, as i have played it and liked it, plus every video of it, it sounds way better than the dimension, which does not sound too different from my fender jazz. looking forward to it arriving soon.

price lowered to speed up sale. £500 Mint condition only 3 months old comes with gig bag great bass. would consider swap for Spector, 4 strings only, aslo looking for a good 6 string electric guitar ibanez, scheter, jackson, something with twin humbuckers and a single coil option. prepared to negotiate for genuine buyers locally (40 mile radius from WF11 area west Yorkshire) this is only 6 months old and hardley used. bought new for £740 (selling due to wrist injury) bought in June 2017
You might find that the 115 ends up not being heard, plus the addition of a 410 is likely to change the eq. Most recommend getting the same cab again if you already like the sound of your existing cab - doubling the sound really is grin-inducing. But many use a 115/410 combination and love it, so I can`t see why it wouldn`t work. If you can get a good deal on the MAG410 then go for it.
works really well, £120 for the 410 cab, yes it did appear at first that the 410 drowned out the 115, but when i unplugged the 115 it did distinctly loose bottom end, plugged it back in and hey presto. got a really nice all round sound now. very please. only downside with ashdowns for me is they are a little quite compared with some other brands. like a hartke.

Price seems to vary, gear4 £190 pmt online £136. I paid £136

ordered signed sealed delivered. and very pleased with it. so much you can do with it. my big muff has much more full on grind and than this, but that's not what its for. I have the distortion level set at 1am blend at 11 and the drive at around 10am. this gives a great subtle distortion but keeps the bass dry mix at the forefront. effect set at pre eq. eq set at 2am bass treble at 1 the mids at centre 12. overall volume at around 2am. compressor on but on at low level as i just like a bit of compression. plenty to play around with but for this price cant go wrong.
