1. I started last year ,,bought a bass for my 56th birthday ,,,,,,i'd never touched an instrument in my life till then ,,,,,,,I go to work Monday morning and normally don't get home till Friday evening so only get to practice in the man cave weekends ,,,ive already been a guest bassist on four songs at a birthday party ,,,it was great ,,,,,go for it ,you don't have to rush out and join a band until you want to .
2. not done ,,,,,,,,I'm a lazy bstard
3. I had a 1 x 15 cab that was a bare box that sounded awful ,,,tacked duvet lining on the inside and put a wooden brace in ,,and it sounded so much better . sounding better is a personal opinion though .
4. well I ve only been playing the bass for a very short time ,,,( and yes I do use the word playing very loosely ) but for my one and only show to date ,,I had a spare bass and amp in the car . if something had not worked I would have felt like I had let the others in the band down even though it was a one off for us ..ive photographed a few weddings over the years for friends and family ,,and it just wouldn't occur to me to turn up with only one camera body and lens ,,,,as said by someone else earlier ,,,,,,sods law ,,or is it murphy's???
5. whilst they are very good ,I get the feeling that they can only do so much with just the two of them,,,,and they may end up just sounding like they are playing one long track all the time ,,,time will tell . but yes I did notice how that string was moving more than a washing line in a gale ,,,,
6.
It went wrong at the start... when he decided to sign in a band
I think its nice he's doing something for the deaf people ,,,,,,,,,,,that'ill be everyone who turns up then !!
7. thanks for the welcome all ....now ive got to try and learn more about the bass ,,,,,,,and decide where I go from here ,,,,,,,,,in fact I have had quite an insight into band life from here already ,,,,,,,,,,,I think ive just lived a very sheltered life !
8. my names Andy and I live in the swale area of north kent. ive always liked the bass on songs since the early 70's when I heard Gary Thain playing on demons and wizards and the magicians birthday. I then had the lateish life crisis September last year and went out and bought a second hand squire p and the v1 rumble 100 ( 1 x 15 ). up until that point id never touched a guitar in my life so you could say I'm new to playing music .ok that's the understatement of the year . told a friend what id bought and he said oh good my mates band is playing at my birthday bash next year ( may ) so you can learn a song and play as well.so learnt half a dozen songs ,, all by the beatles and his mates band agreed four of them were ok to do .I also bought a mim p from a music shop for £400 . I think it was one theyd had hanging around for a long time and just wanted to get shot ,,and a rumble 500 as well .so my first performance was at the end of may four whole songs to about 50 or 60 people ....my project has ended with that band so I'm now deciding which direction to go from here ,,,,,so much to learn and so little time ,,,,,,,,its going to be very one sided I think ,,,,,,,me learning from here and not being able to give much back ,,,,,,but hello to everyone anyway
