Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!
BB3000S replied to Miki Groove's topic in Bass Guitars
Just a note: People pays between 4.000$ and 20.000$ for a original pre-CBS. The value of a mint condition '71 P-Bass like this is 3.000$ aprox. The value of a '00 P-Bass MiM is about 300$. And you, bass players, are not sure of which is which... something's wrong... hahaha
Yeah, well from my point of view the 2nd clip (my favourite) could have been any good sounding P with well broken in strings. Bit of a shame you didn't use the same strings on them all, but it also goes to show the importance of strings over the lumps of wood IMO. Then again, music is a soulful thing and if playing something old makes you feel the vibe better then more power to you. I would love to own and play a pre-CBS Jazz and Precision, but not because I'm convinced they sound sooooo much better than a current well made bass. And of course there's the slight issue of supply and demand to help explain the differences in price. In the end - if it sounds right and feels right it's all good to me. -

Oops, added a +1 to the 71 on account of the chops. -
Fender P-Bass comparison. Guess which is which!

The strings on the Clip 2 bass sound quite dull compared to the other two, which sort of makes it sound vintagey. Anyway, my guess is 1-72 2-58 3-MiM The best sound to me is clip 2 - more on account of the strings being well broken in (which I love on a P bass) than being convinced that it is the -58 and therefore superior. Great chops and cool idea! -
EBS HD350 used or EBS HD360 new, simples.

John Taylor Duran Duran Isolated Bass Track to "Rio"
BB3000S replied to tonyf's topic in General Discussion
Very well executed, a great listen down nostalgia lane - John Taylor was one reason (Jonas Hellborg the other) that I got an Aria SB as my first bass. Remember sitting in my room trying to figure this one out, oh well those were the days... Thanks for posting! -

Thanks guys! PM's replied to - the switch is for active/passive, IIRC the bass is from late 90's / early 00's and this is how they made them at the time. No VTC, just straight ahead bass and treble boost - VTC's are however available from Roger. Also, unconfirmed sources (BC and talkbass posters) have given me the impression that at this time Roger et al hadn't started routing out bodies to reduce weight. I have no opinion at all whether routing is a good thing or not, but with or without routing this bass comes in at 4kg on my scales and sounds sublime. Some interesting trade offers recieved, thank you all so far. As I've said in PM I will hold out for a while to see which trade options may arise, so please keep'em coming! Alleva LM-5 or fourstring Allevas and Sadowskys of particular interest, with some cash either way if/as required. Finally, as luck would have it I bought a bass earlier this evenng, so I will offer the Sadowsky For Sale as well - looking for £2.400 in a cash deal. Will accept bank transfer or paypal if buyer covers the fees. Ideally would like to trade though.

Update: traded for a crappy old P-bass. ---------------- With mixed feelings I'm offering this stunning Sadowsky M5 NYC up for trade. Plays as beautifully as it looks. B-string is one of the absolute best i've ever had regardless of scale, very punchy, full and totally integrated with the slinkier strings. Simply put a superb example of Roger Sadowsky's amazing craftmanship. Comes in a bullet proof Hiscox hard case, so shipping is no problem. The burst is sort of in between a cherry and a tobacco burst and looks just amazing, and the quilt is one of the deepest and most three dimensional I've ever come across. As much as I love this bass, I've come full circle in a sense and the single coil sizzle really does it for me. Trades of particular interest therefore are single coil super jazzes (Alleva Coppolo, Sadowsky, Nordstrand, select Fender to name but a few) both in 4- and 5-string incarnations (already have two smashing SC fivers, so slight preference for a nice fourstring). An MTD-535 with that dark neck wood (wenge or whatsitcalled?)also of interest, but I'm actually quite open for suggestions. Vintage Fender Jazz or Precision basses also of interest. Cash adjustments either way as agreed upon, but ideally I'd like something really sweet just like this beauty. Thanks for looking! Need an advice - payment via PayPal to a newbie with no feedback?
BB3000S replied to KuzBass's topic in General Discussion
PayPal is way more secure for the buyer than a bank transfer, I'd definitely be happy to pay the extra charges as a means of being sure of having my back covered. That said, I recently made a hi end bass trade with an Estonian gentleman on BC who was new to the forum. Got a reference from another BC'er, exchanged personal details and established a mutual trust, and off our two basses went without any other guarantee than the feeling that bassplayers are really good people. I'm sure it all ends well for you too, and again - as a buyer you are very well covered with PP if you choose the (slightly more expensive) "pay for goods and services" (or whatever it's called) option. Good luck! -
To me the Apogee is definitely worth it, the sound quality is superb. Agree that vs the others it is more expensive, but then again I've probably spent much more on pedals that don't see anyway near the use the Apogee does. The Tascam looks intriguing though.

Whatever you do don't get the new(ish) Line6 interface - even though it uses the 30pin connector and does sound great, the interface just doesn't stay put but comes out at the slightest touch. Apogee Jam gets my vote, hands down the best I've tried.

New Dirty Loops Cover - Rollin' In The Deep
BB3000S replied to AndyBob09's topic in General Discussion
Agree^^ With the contunued series of covers it seems fair speculation that they could have their aims set at supporting pop stars, which will probably be great and they will most likely make it, and make quite a bit of £€$ as well. I'm really looking fwd to their originals album coming out though! -
In my judgement, there is no point in paying any attention to iBass as I know full well that it is doomed to failure. In my opinion, it is just not good enough - for all the reasons that Silddx said. If they are going to do it this way - just go and buy yourself a printed magazine instead. Also, the flippant way that this guys throws out excuses is annoying. Good luck to anyone who spends any money on the premium version - rather you than me.
Afraid you may be right, but hope you're not.

This is so strange, the importance of internet forums shouldn't be rocket science in this day and age. Why ask for communication by email when posting on here would be an infinitely more effective way to reach a huge part of the target audience? Nick - please look for the little "follow this topic" button at the top right. Choose immediate notification and you get an email for each post made in this thread. The email even contains the post in question. Hop this helps.

Perhaps someone who is on the emailing list or connected to the publication through one of their social network alternatives could post whatever updates come here on BC as well? Btw, wouldn't BC be THE social network for someone starting a UK-based bass eMag? Anyway, still having my fingers crossed for an iPad version soon.

Thanks for your post Nick, as an iPad browser I look forward to checking out your publication within short (fingers crossed).

I'm in a competition on YouTube and I need your help!

Big thumbs up from me too! Love the piece, amazing solo and overall great composition. And your playing just looks sooooo effortless! -
The 2nd upgrade to my rig arrived today, an Aguilar DB680 preamp that I will run with a LabGruppen Lab1000 power amp. Was totally blown away by how nice the DB sounds, fat but defined and very much alive. Without doubt the best single piece of bass equipment I have ever bought! I'm in looooove!!
