Just out of interest and as I am in Brighton - why not Bernie Goodfellow this time ?
Let's say he's not very fond of Vintage Fenders A few years ago my '78 jazz bass suffered from some fret buzz on some of the upper frets, I took the bass to him, he did some work on the frets and I collected the bass. The bass played well but after 2-3 months the buzz was back. I went to his shop again so he could have a look and, to my surprise, he asked me who had done that bad job on the upper frets, I told him it had been him and he refused to accept it, no way he had done it and in fact he got a bit upset with me.

I like both I've had my HP desktop for a few years now, over 5, and I have never, never had a problem with it, believe it or not. Well only the SD card slot failed but that was covered by the warranty. We also have one of the Macbooks aluminium unibody and within a year the battery died and after 4 years we had to had the keyboard replaced as it stopped working, no liquid damaged or anything, just failed. It wasn't a cheap repair and I wouldn't think on a £1000 machine you'd be spending that kind of money not that long later. As much as I like the Mac and how smoothly it runs, this has put me off a little bit. Would I buy another one? Not too sure to be honest.
When/where is your next gig? (The link to Killing Vegas is dead, BTW.)
We played last week in Horsham and won't be gigging for now, holidays and then we'll concentrate in song writing for our next studio release. Thanks for the heads up on the Killing Vegas link, we'll get that sorted.

Thank you all for your comments! I know these new cabs are very efficient and loud but, can a 2x15 or 2x12 match a good 412 in power/volume/presence? This is my main concern, I don't want to spend big money and then fin d out they can't.
Bit to the North, but Siggery guitars in Crowborough, up the A26 from Newhaven, are good.
Thanks, I'll have a look and get in touch with them.
come to a bass bash and try out as many cabs as possible, and see for yourself
If I could I would but, unfortunately I work a lot of weekends and since I have been on Basschat I haven't been able to attend any of them

Not sure the post title is right but I didn't know what to call it Anyway, I might be changing my rig soon and I wanted to ask about the new lightweight cabs that have now become so popular. I'm not referring to any particular brand, I just want some info/feedback to make sure I'm making and inform and right decision. I have read how powerful and how good sounding some of these cabs are but, as I have no previous experience with any of these new lighweight cabs I rather ask before pulling the trigger. I'm used to big powerful cabs, Bergantino NV610 and NV412 that give plenty of volume and an amazing tone. Can these new cabs, usually 2x12 and 2x15, really compete in volume with the likes of the mentioned Bergantinos? I hope I'm not opening a can of worms here, it is not my intention, I'm just after some advice, these cabs cost a lot of money.

Have you had a chance to try the Basstard properly? What do you think of the pedal? I'm about to buy one too!

I would also be interested in buying one

Up for sale it's my mint Darkglass B7K, US version with all the improvements over the Finnish, which I bought less than two months ago. It hasn't been used much and only one gig but a change in circumstances forces me to sell it. You all know what you get with Darkglass and the B7K is a great bit of kit. In my opinion the DB750 pairs really well with the Bergantino NV series cabs. I used to have a NV610 and it was a match made in heaven, the weight of notes of the DB750 with the mid punch of the NV610 made for an amazing tone! I sold this 610 and bought a DB410, nice tone but nowhere near the tone I was getting with the NV610, I didn't like the voicing of the DB cab at all and it was a very heavy, heavy cab! Now I'm back with Bergantino, this time a NV412, and I don't think it can't get any better than this, nice mid punch but with more bottom end and bit more top than the NV610.

I asked this on the recommended luthiers thread but no replies so far so I'll try starting a new thread My '66 Fender Jazz bass could do with a fret-dress. I'm in the Brighton area, any suggestions who best to take it to?
For me it's the Aguilar every day. Fafner is big and powerful but doesn't have the 'musicality' of the Aggie. Deep, rich, warm and full of natural tone that I think the EBS struggles to replicate. Notes just seem to bloom and fill out as you're playing. The joy of the Aggie is that you just turn it on, plug in your bass and play. Maybe just minor tweaking but no need to spend hours fiddling with controls
I have onwed both amps I completely agree with what Molan has said! For me it's also the DB750 without a doubt.

I've just bought an Eventide Modfactor from Ian and the deal couldn't have been any easier: quick reply to PMs, pedal it excellent condition, packed really well and delivered next day. Thanks Ian!

My '66 Fender Jazz bass could do with a fret-dress. I'm in the Brighton area, any suggestions who best to take it to? (I know Bernie Goodfellow but not for me this time) Any feedback on Graham Wheeler in Worthing? Any other good luthiers in the area, please?

Great work Miki! I have to say my '66 Jazz Bass sounds a bit better than the '65 on your recordings, specially when slapping, it has more ring to it, closer to your '77...could be down to the strings being to old maybe?
As another Jabba user, I can testify to the top quality of the finish, playability and sound. Great for session work as they record like a dream, even DI-ed. £900 is a great deal for a 5.
Spot on...not many people realise how good instruments Mayones basses are!
