Fender 60's P Bass - what type of wood is this please?
dodgnofski replied to dodgnofski's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for taking the trouble to post the pics dannybuoy - appreciated! Comparing the two - and if I had to bet my house on it, I'd plump for Ash as the grain resembles the top pic way more than Alder pic?? Any more offers?? -

Thank you for your response - It sounds quite smooth and even toned throughout the fingerboard, but seems to have 'endless'sustain compared to all the other P's I've owned, or played over the many years??!! -

Thanks Guys - very much appreciated, looks like all the evidence points towards Red Alder? but I still have a niggling doubt that it 'could' be ash, or even swamp ash??......... -

Wow, thanks Howie, I didn't even know that data base existed - thanks. looks very similar to me too! cheers, Tim -
Hello my learned friends - does anyone know what type of wood this is please? Ash, Alder? My guess 'would' be (pardon the pun) - Ash? - it's a 1968 Precision, if that helps? All donations gratefully received - thank you Tim

Here is my really wonderful Fender Squier PJ Precision Bass Special - which is in incredible condition for an almost 15 year old instrument, with no dings or issues - just a few surface marks from being played. Specs:- Made in May 1999 Maple neck Lovely 'slabby - fied' rosewood fingerboard Precision Body Jazz neck Split Precision pickup in the usual position Jazz pickup in the bridge position Volume, Volume, Master Tone control configuration This answers the ' do I need the thump and deep bass tone of a Precision, or the growl of a Jazz'?? dilemma - by providing the best of both worlds. And unlike the Fender Hotrod version I used to own, it has a separate volume for each pickup not a pan pot, which drove me mad! Although this is a passive bass, the output from both pickups is very powerful and produce a wide variety of tones. The bass has been well set up, at a cost equivalent to the national debt of a small country, currently sports Fender flat wound strings and plays like the proverbial dream - in fact, a lot nicer than the Fender Hotrod ever did! Don't make the same 'mistaka to maka' that I used to 'maka' in thinking that because it says Squier on the headstock that it must somehow not be as good as the more expensive Fender models - this is well put together from top quality materials and plays as well and better than a lot of the basses I've owned, or played during the past 40 years! Only selling as I have a Fretless on the way for a new project and as so rightly and 'quickly' pointed out by the current Kitchen Viper 'we' ?? operate a strictly 'one in, one out' rule in this establishment - apparently - anyone know a good snake charmer:)?? Cash on collection preferred, I'm 5 minutes away from Junction 15 of the dear old M6 in sunnny Stoke on Trent - but would post out - but I don't have a hard case for it - so it may be advisable to remove the neck, which may alter the current superb set up of course, but it should be a breeze to regain upon reassembly - four screws - not four candles! £225.00 including shipping to the UK Mainland - payment via Paypal as a gift, or Bank Transfer

Acquired very recently as I 'thought' I was going to be gigging on a regular basis again - 'wrong'!! TWO Ashdown Mi 12 Lightweight Bass Cabs These are very high quality cabs that produced a very articulate sound with a deep bass, smooth mids and just the right amount of highs, in my humble opinion of course. The cabs are in mint condition and their performance and build quality are a credit to Mark and his team. Specs are:- 250 watts RMS 12 inch driver 1 inch tweeter 8ohms Dimensions 545 H x 390 W x 365 D Weight 16kg Both 1/4" Jack and Speakon connection Front ported Rubber feet on two sides for horizontal, or vertical stacking Looking for £160 each, or £300 the pair - which is a big saving on even the discounted online price plus they are indistinguishable from brand new cabs. Cash on collection preferred, or I can post to the UK mainland via Parcelforce 48 - but the cost would be £27.68 per cab - sorry! I'm 5 minutes from Junction 15 of the M6 - if that helps? **If anyone wishes to have these posted - or send their own courier for them, I have the original Ashdown box for one of them and another good strong box for the other** I would be interested in trades for two smaller cabs, such as the ASHDOWN Mi 10 cabs, but they would need to be the 8ohm versions

How much do warwicks make now? SS1 in Yorkshire
dodgnofski replied to LukeFRC's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Strange how fashion seemingly affects gear prices - you couldn't give Warwicks away just a few years ago !! -
For sale - possible trade, my Washburn Status 1000 Headless, Fretless Bass in really good condition for it's age, with just a few small dings / marks and not too much of the obligatory buckle rash. This is an original fretless and not a de-fretted model It's a cracking Fretless and only for sale due to an impending £1000+ car repair bill...... Oh and a lack of Fretless playing talent of course!! Here are the specs:- Status Hyperactive Jazz Style Pickups Status Brass Hardware Through neck design Stepped Volume Control Variable Pan Pickup Selector Status Active Preamp with Pan Bass / Treble Control Strap Locks Original Status Branded Hiscox Lifeflite Case Currently sporting flat wound double ball ended strings Just had it set up and had the Luthier add temporary fret lines to the side of the neck - which alas didn't help my lack of talent - to aid intonation, but can easily be removed if preferred. Would ideally prefer cash - as my car managed to wait until the second week of the year before it died again!! But may be interested in a small class D amp in some sort of trade / px etc?? Markbass would be good as I am missing their VLE & VPF filters. I believe these are quite rare as a factory Fretless and having owned a Status headless Fretless in the past and I actually prefer the 'woody' sound of this to the graphite bodied Status for a Fretless sound, even though the Status was a superb instrument.
