Woes of Will: Venues & Promoters Yorkshire/North East
Nothingman replied to Nothingman's topic in General Discussion
Loads of good shouts here and some I have spoken to this week as I have been a busy boy. So my indie-rock post-punk 90's inspired buddies will get some stuff lined up for early summer. Maybe this forum could benefit with a gig/promoter section - Venue/Promotor/Genres etc.... -
Woes of Will: Venues & Promoters Yorkshire/North East

Actually been on with Vaults today. I will check Lending room. THINK I have played there before. -
Not sure if this is the right forum, but hey ho, I’ll give it a shot. I’m returning to gigging with my new project for the first time since lockdown. Band is well rehearsed and experienced (we’ve all knocked about a bit). We have a support slot worth of songs. We have recorded and starting to release our material. However, things have changed. It seems nigh on impossible find decent promoters or indie venues unless you’re in some magical clique. Have I missed something? I’m I doing something wrong? I was brought up doing things DIY. We hosted and put on bands from across the globe, no questions asked. Today it feels so different. Gotta be a certain age, a certain style, a certain pigeonhole. Anybody else experiencing this? Alternatively can people recommend those decent venues and promoters around Yorkshire and the North East? Cheers. Will

Rival Falls are looking for semi committed good egg to play keys. We are currently a 4 piece (with occasional 5th member on harmony vocals) playing indie rock with punk adjacencies. Comparisons (in passing) to Bangles, The Hummingbirds (NZ) , Dillinger 4, Lemon Heads, Bevis Frond, Pixies etc. Quiet/Loud with plenty of 90’s https://linktr.ee/rivalfallsmusic?fbclid=PAAab14zEERcHKlFZvd1lcp68WPOCQRkrqzdAxqrRH7EoNPQ8fvpXa_yP7uNY

Rival Falls Named after a pair of modest waterfalls (no, I dint have a clue either) in the Yorkshire Dales. Been writing for a couple of years and literally went through hundreds of names to get there. Liked it, then didn’t. But think it suits us now and like it again. Alt rock with punk adjacencies. I’m on bass, keys and guitar on a couple of songs. And one of 3 songwriters. Shameless plug - first single is out 24th March. Follow our socials for more. 😇 https://linktr.ee/rivalfallsmusic?fbclid=PAAab14zEERcHKlFZvd1lcp68WPOCQRkrqzdAxqrRH7EoNPQ8fvpXa_yP7uNY

Not next, but last night bagged a ticket to go see Devo in London on their last ever tour. I’m off on my own, travelling 200 miles and flip knows how I’m going to afford it all. What with rail and hotel prices. But it was like 00’s last time I saw them in Manchester and Mark is one of my all time creative idols. It’s a beautiful world.

I was over the moon when I met Lou Barlow at the merch table of a Sebadoh gig. I told him his style inspired me to pick up music again. He was very nice to me. And liked my story. Then ten minutes later he came up to me, called me by my name and introduced me to Geddy Lee’s nephew! I felt special.

Loved mine. Massively regret selling it. If money was no object (but taste was) I’d have one again in my collection tomorrow. When I got it it had flats on, so they went on the bin and I put rounds on it. Mainly used in a loud 3 piece band where I was playing lots chords and rhythm guitar style with dirt ala Lou Barlow. Did so much to make a big sound with with guitarists playing a strat that was all treble.

I Think I'm Getting Into The Cure - What's Their Best Stuff?
Nothingman replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
I just love making playlists. I could playlist my life.(Despite popular belief, I do not have too much time in my hands) So. About a month or 2 ago I decided to create ‘Top 5’ playlists for my favourite bands: - The Cure - Death Cab For Cutie - Pearl Jam - Band Of Horses - Frightened Rabbit as there were a few people asking me about finding an entry point into certain artists. I took MY favourite 5 songs from each album in the back catalogue and put them into playlists. I may edit down to 3… However, you can check the Cure one here 👇 and see if anything grabs you by the short and curlies. FYI latest Cure album isn’t on there yet as I’m still deliberating… -
Just purchased a Garage Tone Delay pedal off Ken. Excellent communication, quick postage, top work! Cheers Will

They are arguably my favourite band so it’s criminal I’ve only seen them 3 time. But Leeds arena show was fantastic. Other times I’ve seen them it’s been pretty much a greatest hits set. However, this time lots of deep cuts and a handful of new songs. Although I was miffed they didn’t open with Plainsong. Plus Twilight Sad in support 🖤🖤🖤
