I keep returning to the thought, could I get down to one bass. Looking for some input on a bass that meets the spec's I think might get me there (or at least closer). I get the 'go to a luthier angle they'll build anything you want', but in this scenario I want to play before I pay. The Spec: 5 string 24 fret 18mm spacing at the bridge 45 to 47mm at the nut Excellent access (including low notes up the dusty end) Contours for belly and forearm Top horn to 12th fret (or less). 34" or 35" 4.2 Kg or less Resonant. I'm not looking for a 'versatile' bass, I dial my instruments to how they sound best to me and that's where they'll mostly stay. Once comfort/ergonomics are sorted my only concern is do I get off on the sound and feel (playing 99% fingerstyle, no effects). Woods and PUP configs in my experience are so variable it makes sense to just try the bass rather than second guess how it's going to sound. Budget wise certainly sub 5 figures, balance is between cost and how far it gets to satisfying my bass needs. Looking forward to your suggestions. Cheers

I've recently had a new adjustable bridge, sound post and set up completed by Ben Taylor who's based in Southampton. He was great to deal with and I'm very happy with the work completed. https://www.taylorviolins.co.uk/about Edit: Excuse my rubbish geography guess that's more south than south west..... -

Price Drop £1400 Picked this up recently on here from Mr Travis, original advert attached. Trying to thin the herd but really struggling to choose, so this is simply last in first out. Please see Andys pic and original advert. Lightweight 3.6Kg (Bathroom scales), plays really well and sounds great. Player wear, bit of buckle rub and little marks in the finish but nothing that effects playing. Most obvious pic's attached. Collection or meet within reasonable distance. Shipping possible at buyers cost and risk.- 11 replies

Up for sale is my ACG Dao which I've owned from new. Black Limba body Quilt Maple Top 34" Scale 5 piece Maple/Wenge neck Acrylic Impregnated Maple finger board 16" Radius Asymmetric neck carve 42mm at the nut 22 Fret Between 4Kg and 4.1 Kg (Bathroom scales) Pickups - ACG PB Neck, ACG BZ1 Bridge Preamp - ACG Passive plus (Battery compartment present if you wanted to add) Pick up wise think of it as a P/MM, controls are Volume - Tone - 4 way Rotary - 3 way Toggle. The ACG BZ1 contains ceramic and alnico single coils, with the rotary knob giving options of Ceramic, both parallel, both series or Alnico. The toggle switch then gives PB, Both or BZ1. So it's a really flexible package but most importantly it sounds great with an amazing clarity to the tones. Ergonomics work really well, I find it comfortable to play seated or standing. The combination of bridge position (set far back P bass style) with a generous top horn gives it a really compact/easy access feeling. It's in excellent condition, on close inspection I have spotted one 4mm lacquer crack at the neck pocket, pic attached. My reason for sale is I have an ACG 5 string with the same PUP config and I'm forcing myself to choose between them. Collection or meet for handover within reasonable distance. I have a hiscox and packaging if shipping is required (at buyers cost).

I bought a bass from Andy. Good comms and a very smooth process. He's a gent, wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Double bass - Listening Recomendations

Thanks for your links, some great variety there. Just wondering what others get the biggest kicks from. Starting point was I really dig the sound of the double bass but am not sure I could ever get to the stage of getting off on my own playing. So a better option was to dive into the great players..... cheaper too! Open on genre, style has me drawn to Pizz playing but not so much the slap and overly percussive stuff. (Great to listen to for 3 minutes but I'm quite quickly sated and moving on). Big gap in my listening experience with arco so that would be something I'd like to explore.
