I thought I'd try it black and I think that looks better than the white?..... 👍🏻
-
Thanks I think it'll have to be white as I'm allergic to tort 🤮
-
I've had a little play with the pickguard shape and I'm quite liking it...... 🤔 The next question is White or Black?...... 👍🏻
-
Also on my P version I'm thinking does it need a pickguard? as I keep looking at and think it looks a bit bare? Obviously this is a very rough design I need to tweak it alot...... 👍🏻
-
Just a quick mockup of how it will look, I think it's gonna be a nice looking bass when finished...... 👍🏻 (Hopefully 🤞🏻)

Well my new neck turned up today and for only costing £35 delivered I'm really impressed with the quality of it! There's no sharp fret ends and I checked the level of tge frets with my rocker and they are all nice and flat! Its got a nice grain pattern on it as well........... 👍🏻
-
I think I've got a spare flux capacitor in my bits box if its any good 😁
-
I dont like most singlecut designs but the Recurve S that Andy posted is in my top 3 all time favourite bass shapes (hence my neck thru build!) I completely agree with binky P and J basses are just a bit stale now, dont get me wrong I have 2 P's and wouldn't probably part with them but also I haven't ever seen a Ritter or a Fodera that I think WOW I've got to make one of those I especially find Ritters too fancy looking but they do say beauty is in the eye of the beholder...... 👍🏻

Sorry I forgot to add on my earlier post the definition of "build" is to make something by putting bricks or other materials together so if you buy parts ie body, neck etc as long as you are putting them together then technically you are building a guitar etc there is no mention that you have make the materials I think maybe people mistake the word manufacture for building as they are completely 2 different things and as the threads come under the sub heading "build diaries" then if you put parts together or make your own parts then they are in the right place and good luck to anyone who wishes to build a bitsa or from scratch they hold exaclty the same amount of merit IMO! 🙂 And also if you have commissioned a build then its still a build so them threads should go in there aswell!
-
The definition of customised is to modify something to a particular individual or task so if you put a sticker on it or paint it a non standard colour, change the bridge/pickups/ hardware colour etc then by definition yes you have customised it! 👍🏻 The OP mentions "by your own hands" so if a CNC machine is used then does that make it not a "real" build?

My last 4 body builds have been from reclaimed timber I think I've posted this on another thread but I got a load of reclaimed Oak flooring from the Grand Ballroom in a disused mental hospital the grain on it was crazy 🤪 😂
-
The timber is from an old conservatory roof joist...... 👍🏻
-
New body is cut and sanded, I've given it a quick wipe of danish oil to see how the grain will look and after reading @Andyjr1515post re finishing to see if I've missed any sanding which I have on the lower horn! I think it will look good with the contrast of a maple fretboard?.......👍🏻

For sale listing has triangle with exclamation mark
Jimothey posted a question in Site Issues and Questions
Hi I've just listed some tuners and the listing has a triangle with an exclamation mark next to the title I'm just wondering what it means? -
Got my first coat of colour on the body today I'm colour blind (might explain some of my colour choices! 😁) but the pic makes it look a bit Orangey to me but its quite a strong Red in the flesh....... 👍🏻
-
I've just won this neck on Ebay so I'm going to reshape the headstock but its only a 22 fret so the neck pocket is still going to be too short so I think I'm going to remake the body with the body extending under the neck a bit..... I'm thinking of making the body out of Sapele so hopefully it will turn out a bit like this one i
-
Managed to get a little bit more done, I've decided just to go for the split coils instead of a P/J...... 👍🏻
-
Well I modified a neck to use on this from a fender style headstock to an angled headstock, it is very secure with no movement as I used 2 x 2" long 8mm steel bar going through from the neck into the headstock and routed 2 timber strips into the back of the neck as well and I'm happy with the result just filling a few little gaps and then it'll be ready for painting Black but......... As it is only a 21 fret neck and the template for the body I use had be taken from a body with a 24 fret neck the neck pocket wont be long enough for my liking! so I'm trying to win a 24 fret Westfield neck off ebay at the moment as i didn't want to have to mess around with the body I've decided that I'm going to make the 4 string p/j version and I'm going to extend the body under the neck pocket so I can use this neck its going to look something like this........ The body is pine and I've just rough cut at the mo, it's going to be painted Satin Red with Black hardware....... 👍🏻
-
Hi WB Where abouts in North Wales are you? I'm in Denbigh..... 👍🏻
-
Got the pickups and control cavity routed out today Its going to be a 4 string so the bridge is just for the mock-up........👍🏻
-
Looks great!! Well done on your first project!! 👍🏻 I keep looking at them and think I'm going to get one but then I notice the tort and start to feel really queasy!! 🤮🤮🤮
