My wall of Corvettes is coming on nicely!! 😁
-
To be honest I've never heard a Thumb with the angled bridge pickup in the flesh so I can't really comment about the difference it will make to the sound but on a couple of videos they do sound different to a Corvette so I thought why not give it a go!! and also I like the look of it as well........👍🏻
-
This is basically what I'm thinking now.........👍🏻
-
I'm slightly rethinking this build I'm struggling to find a 5 string neck in my budget so I'm probably going to make this a 4 string instead, Also I'm thinking of changing the pickup config aswell to a Thumb style with the bridge pickup angled and the neck straight??......👍🏻
-
Did some more work on the body today........ 👍🏻

Thanks I've now started screenshotting my pics as it take the file size down to 200kb instead of 2mb I'll just delete some of my old pics...... 👍🏻
-
I've always wondered about that, what happens when you use all your space can you still post pics? Because I've got 4.15mb left?
-
I know what you mean, ots not as far as barncaster rusticesque but I think it just gives it a little something but to touch its completely flat and smooth as I attacked it with a stiff wire brush to get the grooves then painted it black then sanded back to take the high spots off leaving the painted grooves flush with the top......... 👍🏻
-
I was thinking that if you make a jig with a small piece of timber fixed to the bottom that sits in the truss rod groove then rout out a slot each side of it for the carbon rods then you can fix that to the neck and use a top bearing flush cutter the same width as the slot that will run down the slots and viola!! You have two grooves for the carbon rods..... 👍🏻

I've tried to make the back a little bit more interesting than plain old Pine I'll do the sides when I've glued the top on....... 👍🏻
-
I've started this build but this one is probably going to be a long one as I need to source a 5 string neck and the missus has put an embargo on buying any more bits as she reckons I've got enough basses!?! (So if anyone's got an old neck they want to donate then she cant whinge at me as I haven't spent any money!! 😂) This is the top I'm going to use I think its either Meranti or Red Grandis that I've black grain filled and then sanded back slightly then danish oiled The back is going to be pine as I want a nice contrast between the top and the back....... 👍🏻

Hi all I'm thinking about doing a 5 string Warwick corvette style with P/J config I've never played a 5 with that config so I am wondering how much difference does it make which way round you have the split coils? Which way is deemed best practice.... 👍🏻 This way..... Or this way.....
-
Just got to fit the strap buttons, truss rod cover, headstock logo and set it up then its all done!! I may be biased but I think its turned out really nice exactly how I wanted it to look........ 👍🏻

My vote goes to no pickguard but thats probably because I'm allergic to tort! 😁

Attempt at converting a flat headstock into an angled one
Jimothey replied to Jimothey's topic in Build Diaries
This is just a test run to see if it will work so I'm not really bothered about the angle at the mo but the angle is 14° like my Ibby neck 👍🏻 -
I agree but he does admit he only got the head tattoo to make himself more interesting!!

Good idea! I've got some 6mm that would do the job nicely.... 👍🏻 -
Attempt at converting a flat headstock into an angled one

I thought I'd give it a go as I'm a cheapskate and don't want to spend £100 on a angled headstock neck so if it works I can buy a cheap paddle head neck off ebay for £30 and convert it...... 👍🏻 -
I've got an old crappy guitar flat headstock neck that I thought I'd try and convert it to angled one? Here's what I've come up with....... I first cut the neck near the nut at a 22.5° angle Then cut the headstock back to a 5° angle I'm probably going to dowel the joint and add a bit of a volute on the bottom to give it some extra strength but I think it will work?? 👍🏻
-
I think it looks really nice without a pickguard would that be an option?...... 👍🏻
-
Thanks I'm really happy with how it's turning out...... 👍🏻
-
Got the neck on now....... 👍🏻
-
Pickups turned up yesterday so I've got them routed out today! (they look wonky but it's just to angle I took the pic) Next job is control cavity 👍🏻
-
Got the neck pocket (I've still got to clean it up a bit!) and pickups routed out and given it a little wipe of danish oil to see what colour it will end up? 👍🏻
