  1. I was just wondering if it was salvageable, if it was I was going to ask of you want to get rid of it as I'm after a 5 string neck at the mo πŸ‘πŸ»
  2. Looking really good so far!! Just out of interest what you doing with the old broken neck?
  3. Body is all rounded and neck detail is all done next job is to do the belly carve the rout out for the pickups and neck...... πŸ‘πŸ»
  4. Yeah it is I hoped I would miss it but no such luck!! I've rounded the edges over and filled the hole its a little bit less noticeable now 🀞🏻
  5. The body is all glued up and ready to trim rout the bottom using the top as the template....... πŸ‘πŸ»
  6. Its not too bad its only 27mm thick but once I've rough cut it I'll have a feel of the weight and then chamber it if it needs it? πŸ‘πŸ»
  7. I've started again this time I'm going to do it corvette shaped, the body is an Iroko back with an black demarcation line with Poplar on top I'm probably going to leave it quite natural on top and just finish it in danish oil buffed to a satin finish....... πŸ‘πŸ»
  8. Disaster struck today!! 🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬 I was doing a few coats of danish oil on the body and I dont know how but the bass fell off my bench and landed right on the top horn and near enough snapped it off so I'm going to have to make a new body now!!
  9. I found an old neck that I've used on this build and decided to go for a matching headstock Just got to wait for the headstock to dry then I can refit the tuners, now just waiting for the wiring harness and strap buttons to turn up!..... πŸ‘πŸ»
  10. Sorry to hear that mate! Is it worth trying to remove the fretboard and replacing the truss rod?
  11. Have you checked the neck for straightness with a notched ruler (I made my own with a cheap 600mm steel ruler notched to fit over the frets) if that seems to be nice and straight then maybe try a neck shim to bring the front of the neck pocket up a tad then that should equal up the string spacing....... πŸ‘πŸ»
  12. Price drop Β£20 + p&p or make me an offer Due to remaking the body this body is now surplus to requirements It came off a Washburn B600 Bantam its been finished in satin black but could do with a refinish tho, cavity control cover was missing when I got it If you have a cheap body (not six string tho) you want to swap it with I'm up for that aswell?
  13. +1 for forstner bits, if you've got a drill press then they are great for elongating holes slightly πŸ‘πŸ»
  14. I just love that top!! 🀀
  15. Received the pickguard today thanks again Jon πŸ‘πŸ»
  16. I decided to do the back and sides black and the top has had a little wipe of danish oil Next job is to veneer the headstock and the rout out the control cavity......πŸ‘πŸ»
  17. Got a bit done today! Neck pocket and pickups all routed out I wasn't happy with a bit of the veneer so I had to redo the top horn Slight change of plan the back is going to go black instead of natural its just a bit too light for my liking! And I might do the neck black aswell not sure yet tho?....... πŸ‘πŸ»
  18. Mine is the ACG recurve its my absolute favourite bass I've ever seen they look just awesome!!! 🀀🀀🀀🀀🀀
  19. I got bored at work this morning so I decided to start to make a new body for my 6 string So after the saga of the last 6 string build I thought I'd just keep it simple Here's the original And here's the new shape I've used a offcut of the White Macassar Ebony veneer from the other build the rest of the body is Pine to keep the weight down this time! I'm probably going to just Danish oil it so it keeps quite light in colour........ πŸ‘πŸ»
  20. I have sorted my pink torpedo up and I don't think it looks too bad I wasn't happy with the contrasting grain on the top so I sanded it back then wire brushed the top to open the grain a bit then repeated the process and im a lot happier with it now!! Just waiting for the pickups ro arrive before I do the control cavity so i get the knobs in the right place!!..... πŸ‘πŸ»
  21. The method I use is a metal file in downward strokes at just off a 90Β° angle to the top and it comes off nice and easy with minimal splitting or if I'm being lazy then its a utility knife πŸ‘πŸ»
  22. Yeah they usually are a tight fit but normally a little tap is all they need to go in! If they are still too tight then a bit of sanding will work πŸ‘πŸ»
  23. Ok you win!! 😁
  24. After I've done the fretboard etc the remaining bits of the build I'm fine with but as you said after all the hard work of building the body I don't wanna screw it up but this build has been dragging on so I just need to get it finished now! πŸ‘πŸ»
  25. Yeah a little bit I'm gonna finish my 5 string $$ build, I'm just trying to build up the courage to fit the truss rod and then do the fretting (never done it before!!) 😳
